1LE Suspension Advise
So I plan on upgrading my subframe bushings to solid units, as well as bushing upgrades to the front radius arms. Now with Pedders and Pfadt gone, what rear sway bar would be an upgrade? I plan on running a 19 inch square setup with Toyo Proxes R888 in 295/30/19 All around. Also have some Ridetech Coilovers on the horizon. What brand/size sway bar would be considered an upgrade, or should I just leave it alone.

I assume from your questions you are track oriented.
I would start with the stock setup and see how that works for you. The stock setup has proven to be very fast and a nice street compromise as is. From there look at mods from members like DropSpeed who was been killing with a fairly stock car. I especially would leave the sway bars alone. The radius rod bushings would be a nice step to tighten up the steering. The rear bushings would be more to cure wheelhop and side stepout which are both not that bad with stock power. If you go FI then look at doing all the rear bushings. DropSpeed's build: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=351990

Thanks for the response. I have already tracked the car, I have some power adders and plan on doing a cam in the fall, my question was more what bar and brand replaced the Pfadt and Pedders Z bar upgrade, I believe it was a 32m Bar

I did the Bmr 32mm rear bar and it made everything great to me. The car rotates alot easier.

I know this doesn't help in the near-term, but it sounds like Apex might bring back the Pfadt sways...no idea when though....

I'm really quite happy with the bmr rear bar. It's 32 mm so I tried to make my own peddlers 1le permagrin kit using bmr parts.

Question is do you want to go to oversteer. The 1LE is almost a neutral balanced car. That is why put a blower on one and you can run just as quick if not quicker around a track than a ZL1. Get to much stiffer on the rear and it will swing out on you and you tail end will be all over the place.
I would first up your power then see how it handles for you. Then do the bushing if need be. |

Yeah she can get tail happy now. But the balance is very neutral, with a hint of oversteer rather than the slight understeer it has from the factory. And when it's about to oversteer you can tell it has a good amount of warning before you slide.

I will probably leave it alone for now. I have added the Headers, intake and tune since my last track day at Sebring. I am running Homestead and Daytona coming up. I planned on Camming the Car after Daytona. I am curious about getting a dedicated set of wheels/tires for the track. at 3700 miles my Goodyears don't look like they will last. I was thinking about replacing them with a set of Pilot Supersports, and getting a set of 19 inch wheels with Toyo R888 for the track. Or replace the tires with the PSS and get a Replica set and get a spare set of the Goodyear F1's for the track. I was quite impressed with the Goodyears on the track. Which would be a better idea? YOu can basically steal a set of Goodyear F1's now. OR would the Toyo 19 inch setup be better?

I got 7000 miles out of my rear f1's and saved the fronts they probably have 4 -5k left in them but I put the PSS' s on and am enjoying them so far. I will also be doing a 2nd set of track wheels/tires soon.

summit, Check out Orange Crush's setup. He has run some good quick times with it and is pretty much more or less what you will be doing as far as power adders go:

On the 1LE, the key points to address are a stiffer rear bar, Subframe/cradle bushings, upper control arm bushings, Trailing arms w/outer bushings and some radius inserts. Then choose between some good coilovers or springs. There are quite a few options to go with depending on budget and quality of parts.
Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to assist. Best regards, Tyler 888-308-6007 |
