Engine oil light ?
I check my oil and % oil percentage every time I drive . Got home the other day after driving for about 2 hours & The check engine oil light went off. I did check it right away & it did look low but checked it the next day when the engine was cold and the dipstick was empty and added 3 qts to get it to normal levels.
There are no leeks underneath & inside that I can see and put a white cloth underneath the car just to make sure. How can the car loose 3 qts of oil in such a short period of time ? The oil was changed by the dealer on 06/14/14 and have put 2000 miles on it since and the engine oil was at 74%. Thanks ! |

Was not filled properly after the oil change. Also you must check oil after the motor has been brought up to operating temp. Never cold! Shut motor off and check with a min or so.

My guess is they only put in 5 of the required 8 quarts of oil.

I concur with the 5 quarts installed. Just so I never screw up I wrote the wrench size and 8 QTS on the radiator support.

You might want to read your owners manual...........

Owner's manuals do not always have the correct information.
I checked my owner's manual for my 2014 Malibu 2 LTZ (2.0 liter turbo); manual specified 7 qts of oil. I always purchase and provide my own oil (Mobil 1), even when having dealer perform the service. Took 7 qts, they changed the oil, and they delivered 2 qts back. Said the shop manuals only specified 5 qts. Service manager, technician and shop foreman all participated in an oil level check; engine was right at the full mark. I queried online customer service rep regarding appropriate oil capacity; their response, after checking with engineers: Owner's manual has the wrong information published! I haven't added any oil and it still sits at "full" mark. Next oil change I will do myself and measure quantity drained. I don't trust owner's manual nor the shop manuals now! |

Apples and Oranges
Two different owner's manuals. I agree always check yourself to confirm it's correct. The point is the ZL1 owner's manual is correct with the amount of 8 quarts.
