No, because the issue is the angle that our key sits when the car is on, not with the actual switchblade key. It sits at an angle that if you hit it from below can turn counter-clockwise and shut the car off during operation.

Not all cars with the switchblade key have the same cylinder, or angle position when the car is on.

I had an idea and called my local dealership. Why not get the keys that they promise us as a recall but also keep your switchblades to use. I asked my service department and they said they'd order my replacement keys and not monkey around with my switchblades so I'd effectively have 4 keys just in case I misplaced one...As my service tech said, "It's not like these things are worthless and if you ever sell it or lose one that just cuts down on replacement cost."

Just my 2 cents...

How much for the two extra switchblade keys that the dealer will mutilate for recall?

It is complete nonsense, they only did this recall because of the pressure they are under. Mazda and VW use switchblade keys and they can be "knee'd as well" but no recall there...

check out this video of the owner of a Mazda doing exactly what the Camaro was recalled for.

Funny how some people react. If the letter said there was a recall on the axles, because it could the car to shutoff, everyone on this forum would be standing in line at the dealership, demanding it be fixed as soon as possible. Find out it's a key, and you might was well shot their dog first before they give up the key.
I think most of us probably look at each situation and determine on a case by case basis whether we feel the recall is necessary or not. I just had 2 completed on the trailblazer. I'm not anti recall, just anti stupid recalls that are political and not about safety.

I would do this because I would like to have a separate key sometimes, but I hate my dealer so much, I can hardly bring myself to go there when I need parts only they have. The next nearest one is an hour away.

I too heard this and thought, that couldn't be me. But over this past weekend I was pulling my car out the driveway, got out and hopped back in to fully back out and lo and behold my knee bumps the key and it switches the car off. Never happened to me before but its definitely possible. Still not sure of I will get the new key fob

Mine too.

I am torn, can't sell or trade it with an outstanding recall

Your insurance could possibly give you a hard time as well.

Then get the key, just tell them not to rip out the blade.

No reason the next owner couldn't decide to have it done if they wanted to. I think it can be done anytime until the car is 10 years old.

We can't legally sell a car up here with an outstanding recall.
