New S550 GT PP vs 1LE
On the Mustang forum I saw someone say that the GT PP should out handle the 1LE or the new Mustang will be a big disappointment. It is interesting to see the 1LE being mentioned more than once. Ford apparently is saying the GT PP, even with the weight gain, will out handle the Boss 302. Big rumor is that Ford will be let reviews and specs on the S550, to start being released on Sept. 15th. What do ya'll think?

Another example of the competition following the rear end of the 1le.
Its nice to be first. Even if the pp whatever becomes better than the 1le, at least we knew they are chasing the leader. (And since moter trend tests show how close to the z28 the 1le is, that means the pp has to be compatable with the z28? Notta chance) (And I snicker every time I think of the phrase "mustang pp". Dare ya to say it outloud lol) |

PS: That time is a greater difference than the difference between the STD SS and the 1LE SS (8 seconds per C & D numbers). I know there was a suspension upgrade in the STD SS. I am just using the numbers they have. Last edited by gajagfan; 09-12-2014 at 11:40 AM. |

I would love to see the comparison complete with videos. I honestly think the 1LE would win. Ford was scared to put the Boss against the 1LE so it makes sense that Ford is benchmarking a lesser car. I think it has a chance of being close but I believe if both are out on a track the 1LE will win.

Ford has to see the 1LE as a target for the performance version of the new Mustang. The 1LE is that good.
If they are able to meet or exceed that goal their victory will be short lived - once the 2016 Camaro hits the market the Mustang will have a new target. |

Has any magazine done this comparison yet? The review I read of the new GT seemed pretty mediocre. They complained about understeer and oversteer at the car's handling limits. I think the 1LE should be able to handle the performance pack GT no problem now.

It seems that some people are a little disappointed with the new Mustang!

Maybe they're holding back until the new Camaro is released but numbers don't lie. Handling is improved but straight line performance is too close to the last model. The people that buy every new Mustang that comes out will buy this one too but it's not a big enough evolution to really break new ground in pony car performance. The sixth gen Camaro will mop the floor with this Mustang and the current 1LE will retain it's crown on the track.

The new Mustang is a brand new platform, unique to itself, high expectations. Gen 6 Camaro, of course is sharing with the Caddy, high expectations. Hope Gm doesn't hold back!

I just read a review about the GT with the performance package checked off the options box (costing a whopping $45K), and they say it's faster than the Boss 302. That was right on par if not a little slower than the 1LE originally so might be that the new "Track Pack" Mustang is even with the 1LE. |

The normal Boss 302 which still costs 10K more isnt even in the same league as the 1LE. |

Refresh my memory, wasn't the C&D comment that they would have dropped below 3:00 if they hadn't screwed up?
