Camaro SS Mods

Hey guys,

I am looking to spend 4k on upgrading my Camaro without voiding my warranty. I know aftermarket stuff always can void warranty but I was looking at Hennessy Performance and I am pretty sure their mods don't void warranty. So can you please suggest best mods for the price for HP gain. Also any good Auto Shop that specializes in Camaro in Vancouver, BC Canada?

Thanks

I would recommend the GM 3.91 gears, and GM performance cat back and a nice cold air kit. Various manufacturers have nice CAI systems that give good gains. You can also do headers, but you really need a tune but that will void the warranty. Options are more limited for those of us who want to keep the factory warranty in tact a while.

Just a couple of ideas. If a trusted dealer adds GM performance parts, you should have your warranty intact.

Sweet thanks for the info. I was looking at the GM LS3 Power Upgrade Kit which includes Heads, Cams and Components. You know if this would work on L99 as well?

who would tune it though and keep your warranty in place? would be a cool performance kit if the dealer had a dyno to strap the car on after for tuning

Tuning could still be an issue. You may have a dealer that is really cool and has a great peformance shop. There are some around. But the really fun more expensive mods (Cam, Headers, forced induction, etc) really should be tuned to keep them in safe parameters.

I would check with a reputable dealer and see if they did the install if it needs to be tuned or not.

Some may not, but the gains will be less also. Just depends on what you want to do.

A GM peformance cat back is around 1K give or take a little and if I have researched it right they may even be rebranded borla cat backs made for GM.

I could be wrong though as I have seen this a few places but cannot confirm. I did a Cherry Bomb axle back and changed out the resonator for an X pipe. The only warranty issue would be to my exhaust, which is fine. I wanted it to sound better, so I went this way. But I did serioulsy consider the GM performance exhaust. Also keep the resonator if you want to have less drone and not notice the AFM (active fuel management) kicking in.

Cold air intakes and exhaust will give you the best bang for the buck, so will a ported throttle body. On my list, but down the road. There are two versions. Bo White (think I have that right) and VMaxx. Both give good gains and are not bad on the pocket book. For the budget you could easily do CAI ($200-450), Axle Back exhaust keeping the factory resonator ($500-900), and a ported TB for about another $150-200. Then you can put the rest away for headers and a tune for later when you are out of warranty.

Rotofab, G5CR, and CAI all make nice cold air kits. K&N does as well, but it has mixed reviews. I have heard though that K&N may have had a hand in the factory Z/28 cold air kit, but cannot confirm. Plus it will void our warranty per GM as stated when you order the Z/28 set up. Not sure why, but that is the claim.

Anything manifold to the cats will also void your warranty.

I will have to check with the dealership on that. Would be cool indeed if the dealer had dyno.

Yeah I will have to check with the dealership about the tune process if I did get the upgrade kit. I am planning on either CAI or Rotofab for air intake and Corsa cat back for the exhaust. Both these mods increase the air flow so I doubt if these will really cause any issues to my car. If the exhaust does have issues then I can fix the exhaust but I doubt any powertrain issues with the car with these basic mods. Also I forgot to mention but I will also be getting the ported TB as well.

Very solid foundation. Also look at the APEX scoop and water bottle relocation kit. It is kind of a ram air induction so to speak that works well with most cold air kits if they are not sealed on the bottom.

The LS3 package you mentioned might not work... we have the L99 with active fuel management. Different lifters, so you would have to get rid of the variable valve timing and different lifters to do any LS3 style cam. Just thought of that.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Yeah I heard about that will look into it and possibly add it on the list as well haha. I have also ordered Range Tech so that will help me to turn off my AFM. Will let you guys know what happens. Thanks for the help everyone.
