skipping shifts in my standard 2014 1SS Camaro
Hello all,
I am new here. I recently traded my 2010 Camaro 2LT for a 2014 1SS, I also made the switch from an automatic to a standard. The only problem that I have with the car is that I hate that sometimes it wants me to shift from 1st gear into 4th gear. I understand that it is trying to help me save fuel but I bought a v8 so I am not as concerned with fuel usage. I guess what I am wondering is if there is a way that I can turn off that feature. I looked at the manual and it says to just do the shift to avoid damaging transmission. Typically I just get on the gas a little harder to get above 2000 rpm and that's how I avoid it. Is there a chip I can buy or a way to bypass the annoying 1st to 4th shift? sorry if this post has been done before, I couldn't find it :/ thanks for the help |

I agree. I don't care for the feature. The way it comes up, it almost invites you to damage your transmission. Maybe if it showed on the HUD, you would be more aware of it because I am not always looking at the DIC especially when I am starting up from a light. My immediate gut reaction is to force it into second until I realize a moment too late that I have to go straight to 4th. I wish there was a simple way to disengage it but sadly I don't think there is.

Easy and cheap. Search for skip-shift eliminator. I know most of the vendors on here sell them. It's a $25 fix.

Skip Shift eliminator. they are cheap and it takes less than 5 minutes to put it in. You still see the message pop up but it does not force the shift.

You can buy a simple harness that will remove the skip shift feature. It's called a skip shift eliminator and gen5diy, Phastek and Summit Racing all sell them. They are pretty cheap at only around $20.
I just adjusted my driving habits and now I only see the skip shift notification once every few weeks. |

If you mod your car when you get it tuned they will tune that out.
Otherwise, it only engages the skip shift when you're accelerating slowly. So if you are just cruising then just put it in 3rd instead of 4th. Or just accelerate faster. |

Don't be fooled by the 5 minute install. It takes 5 minutes to install it after you spend 15 minutes dragging out floor jacks and jack stands and getting the car in the air, lol. Also, the solenoid is almost on top of the transmission. There is also a reverse lockout solenoid lower down on the side. Make sure you don't install in that location by mistake. It also helps if you have hands like the guy in the Burger King commercial a while back. It's pretty tight in there. It is really easy and I installed one in my 2010 SS, then later had it tuned out anyway. I had the dealer install one in the ZL1 when I went in for my first oil change.

If you plan on going for a tune, just have your tuner take it out.

Before you curse GM, think of how genius the skip shift is. It allows people to get a powerful v8 car without getting hit on gas guzzlers tax, and they purposely made it easy to disable if wanted. Gotta give those engineers credit
