Considering a new 1LE
Hi everyone,
I'm looking at getting a new 1LE. I have a GM supplier discount and I have a few questions about the car. I'm completely new to the Camaro, but it seems like the best looking and best "bang for your buck" out there to me. On which note: I'm going to get a 2SS 1LE probably in BVM and I think I'm going to get the exhaust upgrade (I have read back a few pages on the forum). I'm umming and ahhing about the Recaros. I'm quite tall and not thin and they might be a little tight, especially for a longer drive. I'm also thinking about the RS package, which brings my first question: Given that the RS package involves a wheel upgrade and spoiler and the 1LE package also involves a wheel upgrade and spoiler, is the RS package on top of the 1LE package cheaper than otherwise? It doesn't look like it based on the GM supplier website, but that seems a little odd to me. Can you get the HID headlamps and daytime running lamps any other way than the RS package? Other things it looks like I should get based on what I read are rock guards (I assume this is the same thing as I would call mudflaps - I'm from t'other side of the pond) and a catch can. What is that and how easy is it to install it? Anything else I should be adding on? Thanks! |

No, the RS package is not cheaper. I don't believe you can get the HIDs any other way.
I have the dual mode exhaust on my 1LE, and with the fuse pulled, it is a great sounding exhaust. I was considering an aftermarket exhaust before the fuse pull but not any more.

Sounds like you have good taste.
1. The RS package is going to be the same price as usual, but the only benefits you would be getting would be the color matched weather stripeing, the headlights, and the red badges. You have to decide whether these are worth the price. 2. It is possible to add the HID headlights and daytime running lamps through an aftermarket add on (gen5diy i believe) but I don't think there is any other way to get them from the factory. 3. I think the rock guards/mud guards are a good idea if you don't mind the look of them. 4. The catch can I really don't know too much about, but from reading other threads on here, it really works to prevent oil buildup in certain parts of the engine. If anything it provides good peace of mind beyond the factory warranty period. I can't think of anything else at the moment, but feel free to ask any other questions you may come up with. |

Ya ,get sodomized on the RS package on a 1Le . All you get is the HID head lights , body color roofrails, sharkfin ,red SS badge on rear ,and LED tail lights . They keep the RS wheels . I got the RS option on my 14 1LE because I wanted the HID headlights ,but it is a big ripoff IMHO for just the HID upgrade.

Thanks all. That's weird about the RS package. I might see if I can talk some sense into the dealer about that one. GM must still have a better profit margin if they give me the RS package for $1,000 with the 1LE (even at $500 I would think it was worth their while). I'm not going to pay the full $1,300 for some headlights.
As to the fuse pull with the exhaust, does that just make it "loud" at lower revs as well? As I understand it from what I've read on the chevrolet.com site it adjusts the noise levels at a certain RPM. The fuse pull just leaves the valves open all the time? Is that something that you can do yourself easily? |

Chevrolet of Huntington. Right now I live in the city, but am moving out to suburbia. Hence it's time for a nice car...

Pulling the fuse is very easy. The fuse is located in a fuse box in the trunk near the passenger side wheel. You have to pull up the carpeting to find it.

It might be a little hard to find a 1le this time of year since they halt production on them during winter months. Have you found any specific cars?

I haven't. I'm being quite picky about it and I'm not sure I really want it before around April time anyway so if it takes a while I can live with that.

If you are going to order and you have the discount...load it up! I did that on mine. I got Recaro, NPP, Nav, Sunroof, 2SS/RS/1LE. The 1LE trumps the RS wheels with 1LE wheels and 1LE spoiler, but you want the RS to get the halo's.
The only questions for you would be seats and roof. My buddy who is a rather big guy did not like the Recaro seats...did not fit in them well. They are better for small to medium size guys. If you are really tall...no roof as you lose 3/4 inch head room. Some say 2 inches, that is BS, I measured it! Trust me, it is 3/4 inch. I measured because I am 6'1" and it was a concern for me. But has not been a problem for me...I love the sunroof in this otherwise very tight cabin. You should go sit in the seats...that's what I did. My view is...the 1LE features on the outside scream "bad ass car", yet the interior is just like any SS...the Recaro seats just set it apart! If you will fit, get them now! I have NO regrets with the package I ordered! Anything less and I would be kicking myself. |

The 1LE is the best bang for the buck in Camaro Land.
NPP Dual mode exhaust is a must! Recaro seats if you track the car. Good luck.

OP, if you do not mind waiting, see what the next Camaro brings. And then if you still prefer the '15 they will be much cheaper. There just was a 20 percent discount on Camaros. We may see that again.
