PUSH BUTTON START Retrofit Question?
I was sitting in my 2010 SS the other day thinking about the push button start that the 2016 Camaro is sure to have, & then I thought to myself, why not install one in my 2010 SS.
Aside from the challenge of finding a mounting location , & adding a bracket for the switch (WHICH CAN BE DONE EASY ENOUGH), is this something that could be done. Could you run a FUSED WIRE that is heavy enough, directly from the POSITIVE SIDE OF THE BATTERY to the PUSH BUTTON START SWITCH & then to the STARTER mounting post & start the engine? Before you start throwing stones at this idea, I own my SS & the vehicles warranty has already expired, so I could care less what the dealer or any one else might think. Also, if I am correct, that is how you would wire the push button start switch for a purpose built race car. The only thing I am not sure about, is will it cause problems with the vehicles wire harness regarding the factory ECU & or the BCM? Since you are by-passing the factory wire harness it may not confuse the existing wiring in the car. You would also have to install a KILL SWITCH as well to shut the engine off.You would also probably have to turn the ignition switch to the ON-ACCESSORY POSITION as well, to power-up all the other systems on the car, BEFORE you used the PUSH BUTTON START switch. If there are any Camaro owners who have experience in this area, or if you have built a purpose built race car with a PUSH BUTTON START SWITCH, please let me know if I could actually add this to my SS camaro. Please chime in with any & all information. Thanks in advance for the information. ![]() Orange 2010 Camaro |

You don't want that kind of amperage inside the cabin. It should be properly wired with relays under the hood. Even race cars would be using a relay, you can't really run that kind of amperage through a small switch.

I have the push button start on my 2014 Impala and I love it. This company offers a kit for the Camaro (looks factory) someone on C5 installed one 1-2 years ago it looked like it rolled off the factory floor installed.

that advanced keys kit is really the only option. on top of that kit you will have to break the wheel lock somehow also. you will also need some sort of bypass kit that one would use on a remote start to handle the chip in the key.

Me either. If you have to have a key anyway, what's the point?

You break off the key and leave it in the ignition. Or you pull the steering column to disable the wheel lock. I've been researching this for my 2000 Trans Am. You have a bunch of options through different manufacturers but the result is the same in the end. Leave a key in the ignition, broken off so nobody can see (which does not matter much since you need the matching RFID card to start the car but why advertise?) or break the column lock or pull and disable.

Has anyone had any luck with removal of the ignition and the column lock on this?
Unfortunately, I have the 2ss/rs with the hud so i don't have a good place to put the push button for the start. |

I've had push button start/keyless entry in my other vehicles, and I miss it in my Camaro. It's one of those things that you never really need, but once you've had it, you miss it.
I would consider retrofitting a kit if there was one available.
