2012 Camaro RS V6 to V8 swap
Hello,
About a year ago while I was on a MEU in Japan, my father passed away unexpectedly and I inherited a 2012 Camaro RS stock. Recently I have begun doing small performance modifications myself (throttle body spacer, cool air intake, jet chip, exhaust) but I truly don't know that much about cars all together. I was hoping someone here could give me some insight on what all I would need as far as equipment, what would funtion well together (transmission, radiator, shocks, solid rear axle) and what all I would need to change out, in order for me to swap my v6 with the LS2 or LS3 6.2 v8. I've got a decent bit of money saved and do not want to trade the car because of the sentimental value. I would really appreciate any advice that I could get. My friend knows decent amount about mechanics and would be assisting me on the job. I'm trying to do as much of the work myself as reasonably possible to save on cost as well as gain experience. I understand it isn't the ideal "beginner project" but I am confident in our abilities to at least save a good chunk of cash doing the majority of the work. Timothy R. Stanley, E5 0311/ USMC |

Have you looked into IPF supercharger ? With this you'll be on even ground with a stock SS. Easy install

I'm very sorry for your loss Tim and understand your desire to keep the car even though trading it is the only reasonable way to make it a V8 (swapping engines is just not so simple anymore).
However Nutbutt is correct- the IPF supercharger is designed to bolt right to a stock V6 and raise output to a little more than a stock V8. You can also always un-bolt it and return the car to stock (say when you're ready to pass the car to your son or daughter... ).

It's always cheaper to buy a V8. These cars have too many computers now-a-days. If you want power get a supercharger or 8 cylinders.

Supercharge her! Way more economical and plausible.

Another vote for the IPF. I have some other mods as well including headers, but regardless I have beaten a couple SS Camaros even from a stop. Infinitely more benefits and less work than a V8 swap in my opinion. If you don't wanna go forced-induction, then a trade-in for an SS would be your next option it looks like.

If this one ever goes boom,
My next step is to drop in a 383 H.O. 475hp. |

IPF SuperCharger is the easiest, it'll give you approx 375-400 Hp at the rear wheel, Jantzen has Twin Turbo's and did the quarter mile in 12.1 sec. He has around 450 HP to the rear wheels. At least you have the LFX eng. so tuning will be easier.

If you supercharge the v6, will the transmission handle the hp ?
Do they use the same hp ? |
