Cool Camaro ss l99 best upgrades?

Hey everyone, new here. I just got me a Camaro ss L99 recently, I think I got a pretty good deal on it being it Was listed for 25,000 but drove it out paying only 18,000.. happy to say I'm loving it. Just a question on where should I start with increasing horsepower or just overall appearance?? I was thinking CAI and muffler delete to start off with. What do you guys think? And what brands to lean toward

Depends on your plans... Racing? Straight line or road coarse and autocross. Appearance is easy.

I have an axle back and cold air and it really makes the car sound right. Now on the L99 they sound terrible with exhaust when the active fuel management kicks in for four cylinder mode.

If you want a lot of grunt, long tubes, cold air, cam, custom tune and a converter will make tat car fly.

I would also tune it or get a Range.

I just did a muffler and resonator delete and added an h pipe on my 2014 Camaro SS L99 motor. It sounds great!!!! I also have the K & N Cold air intake. I'm looking at doing a Vmax throttle body next. I still have stock cats and manifolds.

This isn't my car, but one like it:

My question is: What year model is it? You really should add that to your "Drives" info so we can better help you in the future.

If it's still under warranty, I suggest you spend a couple hundred bucks and get a Range Device to kill the AFM without killing your warranty. 10 second plug-n-play install through your Onboard Diagnostics port. If your car is out of warranty, you can get AFM tuned out. If you haven't yet noticed the aggravating sound and lack of power when you car goes into 4-cylinder mode, the previous owner may have had it tuned out.

More Power = More Money... sometimes a lot more. Working with a stock engine, you can significantly improve your cars response and performance by installing a cold air intake and air scoop (I have a CAI, Inc intake and love it - it's by far the most popular brand among Forum members). It will cost you close to $500 but is well worth it. Very easy install.

For about $175 you can get a Vitesse Throttle Controller which really improves throttle response time. This is also plug-n-play and takes about 15-30 minutes to install. I love mine.

And, of course, you have to get rid of the stock exhaust. For my taste, muffler deletes are too loud - I don't like to piss off neighbors, nor would I like them pissing me off. I installed a Solo J-pipe axle-back system. It sounds strong and deep at slower speeds and really roars to life when you stomp on it, yet it is not obnoxious to others. There is also no cabin drone either but the j-pipes will adjust if you like the sound of drone.

Good luck. Welcome to C5. Tell us more about your new ride and, I almost forgot...

The biggest weakness of the 5th Gen is understeer from the factory, not lack of power. Hands down the biggest bang for the buck 5th Gen Camaro upgrade is sway bars. JPSS Black Magic Sway Bars - http://www.jpssonline.com/#/jpss-black-magic-sway-bars/

Those work with staggered set up? I have ZL1 reps in 10 and 11 widths with 85 front and 305 rears.

OP, Justice Pete knows these cars very well!

Oh ya, I would also recommend doing the "fuse pull" in case someone ran low octane fuel. There are threads that explain how to do it.

I say get a air intake either the z/28 or another well know brand, screw the range device unless you don't want to avoid your warranty or get an actual tune and with the tune get some long tube headers. Of course an exhaust(just depends what you like). As for appearance that shouldn't be that hard, just look for things you like.

Yes sir. Set the front bar to full soft with your staggered setup.

2011

Wow, Thanks for the quick replys! And for all the info! But it is a 2011.. Forgot to include that and will edit it in on my profile. And I did look into the CAI brand for the intake.. Probably will go with that. Second choice was k&n but I've heard mixed reviews on them.. I haven't noticed it kick into 4 cyl mode or did notice any changes when I'm driving it.. But it's hard to tell with the stock exhaust... im definetly going to look into the throttle controller too.. I'll have a little bit of money to grab a couple things this weekend. Done the fuse pull several times.. Car dealership thought they'd put 87 in it.. So I took it back and had them put 93 and I did a fuse pull after I ran the tank through. As far as the muffler delete deal, I will be looking into the axle backs for sure.. Car is under warranty so I will be doing little things for now till that's done with.

You have a 2011 with an inboard mount hollow sway bar. Your focus is on power so you won't listen to me, but upgrading your rear lower control arms to accept an outboard mount rear sway bar with drop links is the BIGGEST improvement you can make to your Camaro. Those that tell you otherwise simply don't know.

Sounds good. Might need to do that too. But so far probably gonna start with First being the cold air intake, then gonna do axle backs. (would like to do long tubes and cam but warranty...) lol. Gonna build this overtime but planning on making it into a pretty nice car.
