Had the same thing happen to me in a different car. Went to work, all was great, fun drive, beautiful day, etc. Got off, went to start the car and the oil pump was locked up. No warning, no nothing, just done.

Do you believe it was engine manufacturing debris that took 3 yrs, 50k mi and n number of oil & filter changes to accumulate to cause the valve to stick ? or debris that just accumulated from a valve failed ?

Sorry about your problems and if you are worried about more issues down the road by all means sell it and purchase something else. That being said, most cars/manufacturers have issues. A google search for almost any car will turn up what appears to be common problems and would be a red flag for a purchase. The problem is people who have issues with their cars/breakdowns tend to complain about them and post their displeasure, whereas those who are happy with their cars generally won't shout out to the world "I HAVE A GREAT CAR AND HAVEN'T EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS"!!! The same for customer service (dealer) complaints. One unhappy customer will tell ten friends and post online how bad an experience was, but plenty of people had a good experience and had no reason to "shout it out loud".
Lets not even talk about googling a medical procedure, tons of horror stories for even the most basic of procedures, (ie. hernia operation you could experience loss of sensation in your "manhood")! Yet I know many people including myself who have had this done with no issues.

"manufacturing" debris to show up/clog up the valve. I would think that kind of debris would show up by 3k-5k mi, 10max and not after an O&F filter with 10k miles. |

That's kinda my point. I feel like GM isn't really researching the issue, using a "problem" that consumers can't really investigate (aka the only people who would really know this would be the engine manufacturer/machinist). So unless somehow there is a way for oil to go through the relief valve, with debris, drop off and build up under the relief valve before it makes it through an oil filter, I don't understand how this happens. I am not just pointing fingers, I just would like a good answer so I could help prevent it from happening (whereas just replacing the oil pump with a new one doesn't seem to be the answer, necessarily). To me it just seems like a bad oil pump design, but that "isn't the issue" according to GM, it's debris from block machining (which means technically any pump should be affected).

My 2011 just did this with 46K miles on it. New pump, cam, lifters. Debating trading it in, not sure what else I want to get but it won't be another GM.
It's back in tonight for the clutch needing bled. |

This is the exact logic as to why I think theyre full of it. So oil pumps aren't poorly or flawed design, there is an issue with cleaning the blocks at maching/assembly. So now they're going to take your entire engine out, give you a brand new one, which should do the exact same thing versus a new oil pump in an old engine which should be cleared out by now (if that were the case).... makes no sense. Best of luck.
