Dynatech. Pfadt. Or American racing headers
I have done a lot of research and looking at one of these three options for my zl1. Looking at buying the JRE 125 package but not sold on the headers yet. I have researched old posts about all these systems.
Anyone have any advice on what headers? Quality? Performance? I youtubed some sound clips previously. I am leaving stock catback on. Thanks. |

Performance should be about the same for the different brands of longtubes. I called Janetty a few weeks ago to discuss headers for my SS and they recommended Dynatech. It sounded like they thought Dynatech was the easiest install/best fitting, and they liked the 4 bolt flange.

I've got Kooks 1 7/8 W/Cats and they fit perfectly and were stupid simple to install.

All 3 you mentioned are great headers. Although I don't quite think that Dynatech are up to par with the others. The issue I always had with Dynatech is that they seem to hang really low and not tuck up as nicely as other headers. However, Dynatech has the new Supercats which mate up to their headers which are supposed to hold up to boost. I'm skeptical...but reports so far are good. The Pfadt headers tuck way up nicely and are a work of beauty. They have the tri-Y design and may offer you a bit more mid range power at the expense of a bit less top end power as compared to the others (which is great for street driving). But the differences are probably very small. And I think Pfadt fit in the ZL1 the best with no trimming of the belly pan at all (though this isn't a bid deal at all for the others). ARH has excellent quality. You may want to throw in Kooks as well. They are right up there with quality and features.
Or you could think of going with Texas Speed or Speed Engineering and get the same quality and results at 1/3 the price. I know Jannetty pushes Dynatech...he must get the best deal from them and make the most money there. They are certainly a good header and a good option. But there are others out there. If I was going to go expensive, I was going to go with the Pfadt headers. They are just beautiful and street power is what I want in my car. But in the end I went for Speed Engineering headers and got everything shipped to my door for $340. 304 stainless. Merge Spike. Great quality. 02 extensions. Off road pipes. All for $340. I took the $700 I saved by that decision and bought some other parts I wanted (ID1000 injectors!). Lots of good options. Be careful of the vendors pushing you around and scaring you into only their preferred option. Many, many great options to choose from. Good luck! |

I also went with Kooks headers. You don't have to trim the belly pan on 14-15 ZL1's

Thanks for all the info.
Few more questions does American racing and kooks both have super cats that connect to stock catback? I would prefer not to change the catback. Also, I have read than even with stock catback it can be very loud if you don't use cats of some sort. Anyone have an issues with cats on any of these? I hear the Dynatech super cats work well. |

Also do I have to do any trimming on my 2014 to install Dynatech ? Sounds like I don't but wanted to make sure.
Anyone have any dyno graphs or numbers on Dynatech? Found more info on the others. Curious about performance differences. |

Headers don't yield that much hp gain so to me it makes sense to buy the best ones in which yield most power and sound great. I'm happy with my setup. Dynatech ceramic coated with the super cats and the 125 package and some extras. Car runs flawless and sounds amazing. Just my .02. But I try not to worry to much amount the cost, considering all the money you spent on the CAR. I'm not a performance car expert so I have to pay for someone I trust and Ted is that guy. Thanks

I was in this same delimma last year but ended up going with Dynatechs 2". I love them. Had them ceramic coated, work just fine. Saved a few $ in the process.

I pulled the trigger with the JRE 125 kits exactly as offered by Ted. Little worried about the performance of the supercats but I trust Ted and his advice. He states that the supercats were engineer specifically for forced induction vehicles.
Can't wait to get it installed! |
