Mechanical or spring tensioner?
Hi all. Need some info from anyone that has gone this route. I have a slp supercharger, cam etc (see sig) and have belt slip. I am trying to decide if I should go with a JRE/ADM style or MTI racing tensioner. Any advice/experience is appreciated.

I have a JRE but the Adm one has an additional pulley for more belt wrap on the crank pulley...

A mechanical tensioner will require quite a bit more static tension on the belt to account for belt stretch under load, which will be much worse for your alt/PS/WP bearings than the increased tension from an upgraded spring tensioner. If you also have a long belt, especially a 6 rib, that may still not be enough static tension.

Good strong spring tensioner every time for the reasons above.
With mechanical, you need to overtighten the crap out of things just to account for the fact you have a mechanical tensioner that can never compensate once the belt starts to stretch further. |
