Track Day Spare Tire
I have my first track day with the Z/28 this Friday and I am trying to cover all of my bases. Car is at the Dealership getting oil changed, brake fluid changed, rear end oil changed, coolant % adjusted, and alignment.
The car will be taken to the track in an enclosed trailer but I am concerned about not having a spare tire. Does anyone know if a spare off of a base 5th Gen work? I am only concerned about getting the car back on the trailer if something happens. |

Checked the size of a base model spare, looks like it is an 18 inch wheel. Wont work. Im sure 19 or maybe 20 inch spare are out there, but you still have the caliper to contend with and the rotor to protect. Im interested in what you find or others post.

So bear with me here as I am not finding a 19 or 20 inch spare. If you really wanted a "spare", looks like youll have to be creative. This is going to set you back about $500. My solution would be to get a pair of 19 inch 2009 Bentley spare wheels (on ebay right now). Then a set of wheel adapters from Chevy 5-120 to the Bentley 5-112 pattern. Long term, youll have a set of "drag pack" wheels.

You could buy a Z/28 replica and street tire for a spare

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am sure it isn't likely that I will need a spare but it would suck to need one and not have one.
I might go to a junk yard tomorrow and see if I can find a solution. I thought about a full size 19/20 but those seem to be a hot commodity. Maybe a set of replicas are in my future. Might make sense for street duty. But that wont happen before Friday. |

What about a wheel off an SS? It's a 20 so it'll clear the brakes and you just need it as a roller.
