Z/28 Cold air intake

You guys lucky enough to have a Z/28 can maybe answer a few questions. The air filter and intake tube look huge. A few close up pics would be greatly appreciated. Is the intake tube still 4" diameter at the MAF sensor?

Wow - this is an oldie ... anyone have the answer? - maybe can check by removing the MAF sensor and putting a tape measure in?

I wont have mine till next week our I would measure it for you.
I do not believe the LS7 in a corvette has a larger throttle body.

I've just measured the STOCK OEM SS air tube inside diameter at the MAF sensor location ... SS is only 3.75" inside diameter. Then, right at the very end of the snorkel it flares out slighty at the connection fitting where the elbow attaches. The air tube is much narrower inside than it appears to be looking at the outside on the SS.
Since the Z28 Performance intake states that after install the car does not need to have a re-tune, I am guessing that dimension at the MAF sensor location is similar.

Frenchsqaured, I took an uncooked spaghetti noodle and used that as a gauge to get a precise diameter measurement at the MAF sensor location inside. In addition to diameter, could you please also measure the distance from the outside of the z28 airbox side wall to the end of the z28 MAF tube? ... at the end where it connects in to the flex elbow.

While I had the SS intake parts off I noticed that the inside of the housing box has a trapezoid white shaped charcoal filled device fastened to the housing with a do not remove marked on it. That charcoal likely absords gas fumes when the engine is off and then when restarted they are sucked in to the engine. Probably to be EPA certified. Since the Z28 performance intake does not have this device is one of the reasons it is not carb certified and banned in California.

The stock intake on my Z28 is most definitely smog legal in California as I have smogged my car with no problems. I can look at the intake and measure stuff on it for you guys tonight if you still want it.

By the way ...
This is the disclaimer in the Chevy 2015 Performance Catalog where it states that the Z28 CAI is not for sale in California.
The big huge white trapezoid bag of charcoal that is inside the stock SS airbox lid (in my #4 post above) is not in the Z28 CAI.
Last sentence below: "NOT Available For Sale In California"

Is it possible it is legal on a factory car and not as an aftermarket upgrade?

Correct. Only on Z/28 vehicles. For the LS3, L99 is considered aftermarket.

I don't know why people are willing to live in that state. We have no emissions and no inspection. I just provide proof of insurance and pay for my plates. Then off we go.
