CAI on right?

I made a thread a couple weeks ago and I wanted to ask about the install I did by myself.. Does everything look set and right???? Because I have been experiencing surging going uphills and some weird sounds from it over the past couple of months.. Let me know if you see anything unusual about it, also I need your opinions please. the link is below!

What brand is that? Why do you have 2 hose clamps by the air box wall, and 1 inside on the filter? Is the box wall supposed to be curved like that?

Your install appears to be fine from what I can see. The only thing that could probably cause the surging would be something with the MAF sensor... if the intake is indeed causing that to happen. If you only get the surging going uphill, it might be something else. What is the sound you are hearing?

The surging and hesitation started happening when I put the cai on... And everytime I get to around 35-45 mph I get this whistle around the engine bay area and it does it for bout 5 seconds then goes away. Or whenever I let my foot off the gas pedal. But as soon as I put it back on it does it again. And also I get this weird sound when going over 60 mph, sounds like something is shaking. Its never happened before the cai install..

Since ive added this its also been doing this.. But this only happens when i drive the car and then lets say I go park it and leave it for like 2-3 hours then start it back up and its somewhat between cold and hot (the engine)..

Really, there isn't much with the CAI that can cause these issues. If all of your clamps are tight and there are no leaks, then the whistle and the surging must be coming from something else. The engine loping, well I would start with replacing that MAF sensor. Because again, there is nothing else with the CAI that can cause that if you don't have any leaks. Did you say in another thread that you cleaned the MAF during this install? Maybe you damaged it. That is a very delicate sensor. Lastly, the pegging of the meters. I have never seen that. Is that what you are trying to point out in the video, or the loping? The CAI is definately not causing the meter to peg. Thats very weird.

To me it looks like you hit the hose on top of the manifold the connection twists on and off. I'd make sure it's not loose...one more question did you happen to take off your throttle body for whatever reason?

I never took off the throttle body during the cai install. I only took it off whenever everything started happening. And whenever it started happening then thats when i cleaned the throttle body but it didnt work.

Is there any chance you put the maf in backwards? I did my cai today and discovered it will fit either way. I've done a bunch in the past years and wasn't paying good attention when I took it out and bolted it on the cai tube. As I was fitting the tube on the engine I had this oh shit moment. A close look will reveal an arrow that points the air flow from filter to intake. I had mine on wrong, but reversed it before going any further. I don't know what effect that might have but thought I'd throw this out.

I'm not sure either. But I went with CAI and I've never regretted it.
