Teach me!!!!
After a few months on here and lots of reading I still feel like a complete noob and stiff have lots of questions. Where do the people who really know what they're talking about learn all that stuff? It's really frustrating from someone who never grew up with someone to teach me how car stuff works.
One of the questions that I have is how many parts designed for an SS will interchange with a lame LS like mine (doesn't even have foglights wtf?)

In my case growing up I had a few family members and friends of the family who were backyard and professional mechanics, as well as a few that worked in body & paint and restored vehicles who taught me about cars. I started 'helping' with engine rebuilds at the age of 10. Since then, decades of experience & learning from other car enthusiasts has added to my knowledge

I KNOW NOTHING!! <---- I took several years of metal shop in collage along with blacksmithing, jewelry, lost wax casting and auto shop basic, suspension and alignment and smog, I just do things because I can. Start with the basics like oil change. Change the air filter. Do little things like lights but always do mods you can start over with if you mess up that way you don't ruin your car.
Lets say you want halo rings on your lights buy a set of stock ones new or used that way if it turns out like poop you did not ruin a good set of headlights on your car. Just takes time and patience and planning. I got a stock ls no fog lights with the steelies. I've just learned to love what I got and improve what I have to work with. Tools are another thing that helps to have. I just have a jack 2jack stands and a torque wrench. The rest of my tools are all for Audi only or Mercedes specific maintenance. Take a auto class go to car shows make friends work on there and your own car with them. Nothings more fun then hanging with other car friends and learning from them. Car guys and girls are not complicated shit most are happy to just know you want to learn As for the people on here who are masters at there cars. They just been doing this stuff for a long time.....or there freaks of nature who pick up on it fast. That and the manual and technical diagrams and books help to read and practice. Just start small and easy gain that confidence and work your way up |

What do you want to improve on your LS? Handling? Get the RS wheels and tires. Braking? You already have great brakes. Acceleration, ah you are kind of screwed there. Best advice, go to a driving school. There are some inexpensive ones like from the SCCA.

I was raised a little different. I was always told it only cost a little more to go first class. Meaning it only cost a little more for the better model, and not have buyers remorse.

You already made a good start. The internet is a wealth of information. It's akin to being 'raised up' or having that uncle who knew how only multiplied by MILLIONS! 'Course you have to separate the bad advice from the good. Generally speaking, you'll get good advice here. And some of the best knowledge comes from those who already made the mistakes you want to avoid. THAT is priceless.

OP: You already found camaro5. Everything can be found right here. You can use
the SEARCH option or just browse around. Also, the LS is great looking Camaro. You just don't see many around so it's unique. Keep it clean and detailed and your in.

Where did we learn this stuff? Years and years of just doing it. Honestly in today's world watch YouTube and get on a forum. There is most likely a video of someone doing whatever you want to do, and if not there is somebody on a forum who as done it. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask, but also you the search function as most questions have been asked and answered at length.

You've got it made nowadays. Just about any rudimentary repair can be found documented online somewhere.
As far as cross-trim compatibility, just about everything short of engine/trans and control systems (technically you could but that's another far more complicated story, keep it simple). Rear, suspensions, brakes, interior, body panels, etc. Pretty much all interchangeable to a degree provided you use the correct components or group of components. Your LS isn't lame. Enjoy it.

its a lot easier to figure out how to do things nowadays. Every mod I have on my car, and new truck, I did myself. the first step would be to join a forum. There are a lot of smart people on here that can help you with anything you need to know, or at least point you in the right direction. Tons of youtube videos with step by step instructions on just about anything you want to know. Wish I had the internet when I was younger.

I started wrenching on BMX bikes that I raced in about the 4th or 5th grade, then moved up to dirt bikes and ATV's, the I did some superbike racing. You learn quick on solving and fixing problems when everything is on your own dime. I won't tackle a job as big as an engine or trans rebuild but can and will tack any type of bolt-on. Having friends that know what their doing doesn't hurt either. Just like anything else, these things take time and real world experience. I will admit that I refer to You Tube quite often, there seems to be How To videos for just about anything on You Tube these days. My buddies and I joke about how did we do anything without the internet, Forums and You Tube 20 years ago.

IMO cars of the 60's to early 70's were much easier to work on without all the computer stuff. Just about any repair could be done at home with just a few tools and a Chiltons.
