7:31.9 Dry Lap?

I've seen 2 sources now confirming that our ole 5th Gen Z ran a dry lap of 7:31.9 around the Ring, but since the cameras weren't rolling... it never got posted. That means our car is still faster than a GT350R and closer to the new ZL1 than what was originally perceived.

Links to those sources? Would like to read more about these. Not sure why GM never ran another official lap after ran hit during that timed run

Ive put some thought into this.. Maybe they never posted an official time so there can always be speculation. I think its smart. This way
they can sell both cars.

The 'Ring is also running quite a lot faster in 2017 than it has for the past years. Around 4 seconds or so I believe due to corner re-profiling, adjusting run-off kerbs and smoothing out a couple of bumps.

Bear it in mind when you consider the time the Z did in 2013...

Another article where Al O. claims that it could run the Ring as fast as a 911 GT3. My only question... why weren't the cameras always rolling when they were going for a fast lap?

Anyway....7:30ish seems realistic. Another member posted a video of the 2017 ZL1 and Z/28 Ring videos side by side and they were neck and neck until the Z/28 hit the wet. 7:25 doesn't seem realistic, however.

GM Authority and Motortrend. Others beat me to it.

I think GM gave up on another lap to move on to the 6th Gens. Many folks from the Vette clan have also stated we haven't seen an official lap from the C7 Z06 because it's just too hard to reserve the track with competing interests from other automotive groups. I don't believe team corvette hasn't run an official lap, I just remember seeing them state weather was an issue and they didn't want to release another lap time that was in less than ideal conditions.

The GT350R doesn't have an official ring time that I'm aware of.

I agree with this and said as much when the time was originally announced.

And it worked, because here we are a few years later still speculating...lol

A 7:31 does make sense considering the Z/28 was 10 seconds ahead of the ZL1 when the rain hit. As mentioned, I think a 7:25 is a bit of a stretch, but a 7:30 was definitely do-able.

The 350r's official time is 732.1. Google Nurburgring top 100 times.

Someone somewhere has camera footage .im sure you guys are like myself have watched alot of raw amateur film footage on you tube of other vehicles running the ring. Their gonna make us believe on all the runs they made with a production car they spent so much time money and engineering on that gm didnt film every time it tested the Z28. Lol. may be but then again i wasnt there either so. WOULD BE NICE TO KNOW THOUGH

Don't know why I only came across this thread some 6 months later but ...

When GM is doing their testing, they don't have exclusive access to the entire track for as long as they want. Testing occurs during a specific period of 'industry days' where all sorts of manufacturers use the 'Ring. For most of this time, video is not allowed (possibly through a gentleman agreement) as nobody wants footage of their prototypes in the hands of a competitor. Its one thing if an engineer can see it with his own two eyes, but a video clip lets you build a 3D model of at least a portion of the car to pretty fine detail. If the lap was run during this time, there wouldn't be video of it.

Anyway, when the track is eventually open to video backed single laps, each manufacturer only has a small window of opportunity. If you have a camera malfunction of any sort on one of those few chances, there won't be a video of it. And since there is such a time crunch on this, GM (who has so many models to potentially run) doesn't really have much of a chance to come back the following year to try again if something got flubbed the last time.

Great insight. Thanks!! Maybe it really could run a 7:25, as implied by Al O., but still seems a stretch. 7:30 seems totally doable.
