Z/28, ZL1 and GT350R at Big Willow Springs

Watched MT's ZL1 & GT350R head to head. They flashed this up. Made me proud of our ole slow poke Z/28 (ha!) and what GM did with the Zeta platform.

Only thing I would add is big Willow is one of those tracks where your afternoon lap time could be as much as three seconds off one banked in the calm and cool of morning. For half the price of a 350R that time by the 1LE is mighty impressive.

What's amazing is that there are three.. count em', THREE Camaro's on that list. The good "ol'" Z/28 and the current killer.

Yep. Also, in the beginning J. L. mentions how the GT350R beat the stuffing out of the gen 5 Z/28. Based on the times above, it was 1/10 of a second faster. I know they like to create drama, but that statement is idiotic.

They have been in love with the GT350R from day 1, they simply can't see any other similar class car as its equal. If you go back and watch the comparison to the Z/28 you will see the differences were the exhaust sound, the interior quality and how it put down power out of the corners that won the day, even if just a bit faster. It is a great and fun car, but is not the right fit for everyone and with the ADM's is has commanded it is not a great value versus the Camaro options.

It is a nicer overall package than the Gen5 Z/28 as is should be, being the latest and greatest from Ford. When I say package I mean street/track car. That being said - given the Z/28 price versus the GT350R with ADM's, the Z is the better value and I would prefer the Z for my track car.

Is the GT350R a better package than the ZL1 - well that is really up to each buyer. You can get a ZL1 at a reasonable price, so for a street track car it offers a lot of performance and a good value. You listen to what Randy has to say and he clearly loves the Gen 6 platform and what it can do, he even indicates it is the better car, but the Ford makes better noises.

For the track the GT350R would have to be compared to the ZL1 1LE and it is simply going to crush the GT350R. But again the 1LE is not the greatest street car - so for all around the GT350R is a better package - but maybe not up to the ZL1.

So taking their GT350r biased love affair and putting it aside - In the end these are two great cars and there is not bad choice fort he buyer!

MT needs to bring back Arthur St. Antoine and Carlos Lago, I prefer their more professional reviews and presentation/writing style rather than these two comedians.

That little Mustang with 125 less horsepower and stickier tires is really working right.
I wouldn't compare those cars though. 350R vs ZL1 1LE is the one to see.

When comparing price for current offerings, I would think it prudent to somehow incorporate the average ADM the market is seeing. Sure, MSRP vs MSRP should be compared, but with the current ADM that dealers are getting on 350R's, the ZL1 is a far better value proposition.

Agreed. MSRP doesn't mean much when dealers are marking them up 50%. Also, used versions are going for over $100k. Our cars are selling for $45k used. Talk about bang for the buck.

Camissa (sp?) just left MT so Jonny is the only one of the two left. carlos left and came back so he will most likely slip back into that slot. And now Randy Pobst is working his way into the reviewing realm. He was great on this volvo review.
