engine won´t start when hot - problem solved
I had these starting issues when engine was hot, like at a stop after a while of driving
cold starts worked fine.... - bought a new battery, same - bought a new starter, same - wrapped starter with heat shield, same gauged the volt value at the starter when engine was hot, there were 2 volt less than directly from the battery in the trunk solution: installed an additional ground wire from the engine block to the chassis, now hot starts work same as cold starts attached a picture of the new cable |

Brilliant! This has been a chronic problem that has plagued many over all 5th gen yrs who tried everything you did except measuring for voltage differences. Looks like you found the Holy Grial cure. Thanks for posting the pic. Which side of the block did you mount the addtl ground as you can't tell for certain from the pic, looks like left front? Just curious what heat shield wrap did you use?

its at the driver side, there was an empty drilling hole at the block where the new cable was mounted
I used the Universal Starter Head Shield from Amazon here is a picture of the mounting at the chassis driver side: |

Thanks for the reply. What is that wire that shares the chassis ground spot? Also just to be certain because you're in Germany is the driver side the left side of the car?

looks like another ground cable, but I am not sure,
all of the work is done by my local shop |

Reason I asked is mine is a '13. It has the empty block drilling hole but chassis grounding is different. I didn't see anything grounded on the drivers side chassis frame rail. Doesn't mean anything a ground is a ground, unless the ground yours shares is the alternative or front battery terminal ground and that's what's helping keeping the voltage constant at startup?

I just talked with my mechanic, he says the second cable at the chassis frame is directed to a control module
any contact at the chassis works fine for that additional cable, best place is where a screw already exists |

Im having pretty bad eletrical and hot start problems here to, would like to know where you ran this ground to on the sub frame or body do you have to drill a hole for it or bolt it to an existing point?

Curious, why didn't he replace the bad ground cable instead?

So is this going to plague every 5th Gen as it gets older? Now My Car won't start!
