Will there be a new 6th gen Z28?
After buying my first Z28 I thought I would look in on the 6th gen forum. Saw a pole where they were comparing a ZL1 to a possible Z28 6th generation. The pole is running towards the majority having a ZL1 not much enthusiasm for a new Z28 most saying it's not necessary.
Most are saying the new 6 gen ZL1 will run the pants off of 5th generation Z28 on the track. That may be true as of right now but,I sure do like having a naturally-aspirated 427. What do you guys think, would you buy a new 6th gen Z28 if they come out with one over a ZL1?

Have to see it first - not a big fan of the rear lines/back half of the Gen 6.
Plus, add 150HP to our Z/28's and I doubt the Gen 6 ZL1 or ZL1/1LE would "run the pants off" of it. |

I would probably buy a 6th gen Z/28 if it were built like our cars are. Naturally aspirated engine, track focused suspension. But this time give buyers a few more options maybe? Navigation, upgraded sound system , fog lights , and maybe carbon ceramic brakes be an option instead of standard issue. Just a few thoughts... either way I am keeping my 5th gen Z/28 and I am glad to have it.
Edit: After re-reading my post, I basically described the 2SS/1LE. So I don't know if the Z will ever come to fruition or not...time will tell I guess.

Even if they do,in any form, it will never be as special as the Gen 5. Maybe towards the end of production on the 6, they'e gonna need a motor for it too because the bases are covered. JMO

The new ZL1 1LE is the new Z/28. There's currently no Z/28 in the works for release anytime soon... This is from a very, very good source.

That is kinda my thought also. That just means our Z/28's will carry more value going forward as a limited production car. Time will tell.

I’d be surprised if we don’t see the Z28 brand reappear in the future. It’s such a strong integral part of the Camaro brand.

Very very good source?
My Brother In Law is working on/developing the exhaust for the 2019 Z28. He was given the specs, what it needed to do and what it needed to fit. Since he usually shares all the cool stuff he's working on I trust the information. Especially since the file said Z28 Authorized Personnel Only and he was flown out with his team to see the design drawings of it.

Every generation had a z/28. I doubt GM leaves it out now into the 6th gen. It might not be as wild as the 5th gen or as rare, or they may go over the top and it be the baddest camaro ever. I do think we see a camaro in this generation badged with z/28 though.

Kidding. I actually meant to type "for release anytime soon" which I just fixed. I won't disclose my source, but I know the project has been pushed back.. The "money men" are driving this one at the moment. |

I think it will come after a body style change, just like our Gen 5's did

I still also think GM wants to keep a naturally-aspirated track car to compete maybe with the Ford Mustang gt350r.
Just came back from running mine and I got to say I like all of what the Z/28 has to offer. I don't need a forced intake and all the extra weight and plumbing that needs to go under the hood. I waited to get my special Z/28 and I think most of you probably did also.

I find these comments about having a source interesting. Car companies go to so many extremes to keep secrets that it's hard to fathom more than a handful of people being in the know. Those who are, shouldn't be telling anyone about top secret projects.
That said, in 2012 the 2014 Camaro VIN card listing an LS7 was leaked. It didn't say "Z/28", but many began speculating that it was a Z/28. To the OP's question... it's hard to see where a Gen 6 Z/28 will fit in the lineup. Al O. seems pretty intent on not making the Z a sticker and decal gimmick car. With the 1LE, Zl1 and ZL1 1LE it's hard to imagine it being anything else.
