Dye stitching in interior

Oh WOW Yeah that could get pricy! But, the OEM parts for the Camaro are pretty affordable unlike those overpriced Toyota parts. I bet you could do it easy enough.

Awesome can't wait to see it, especially in person. I am on the fence about doing mine, I am worried about fade in high use areas like the shifter knob or steering wheel etc. I guess if it fades just do it over.

Yeah pretty much..... I was worried about that too, but there are so many mods I want but can't have due to funds that I just said f_ck it, let's do this. If I have to maintain it then oh well, and down the road it'll give me an excuse to buy synergy seats

well, i noticed that some of you have used the paint,

and some have used the dye markers.

i bought some of each,but im torn on which ones to use...........


i think the paint has more of an eye popping color ,
but i dont know if ill like seeing the paint in the holes of the stitching,

where as the dye markers have a cleaner more mellow look and dont fill the stitching holes....

I used paint because of the color... I couldn't find a an Orange in fabric dye to match close enough

Stikss, did you find your orange color at Walmart? I used the decor fabric pen and not the orange I expected. I can't find orange in the elmers you used over here in Hawaii.

heres the ones i got....

the psinters was got at walmart, and the fabric marker is from michaels craft stores.


my car is synergy green, so im not looking for a match for IOM ,

i am trying to find the closest match to the flo orange that some of the accents on the car are.

im including a pic of the couple stitches i did with the marker,it looks pretty good actualy.

both the markers are labeled "neon orange"

I'm using the paint. If you apply lightly- kinda of skimming across the tops of the stitching, then wipe with a wet towel (not damp- WET) then wipe off with a dry towel, the paint will run a little and coat the threads top to bottom without leaving bright puddles of paint in the crevices.... Takes a little practice, so I'd start in as discreet an area as possible at first. Maybe the sides of the seats that are closest to the console.

if you choose to go with the paint, that's the way it's done

ill have to remember that.

i wanna do this so bad,
but im having a tough time deciding on which pen to use LOL

i will say the neon orange most closely matches the other orange accents on the car.

Good technique.

I have tested the 5 different makers/pens used here by all who have posted. Based on my tests results, I am going to do mine with the Elmer's Painter's pens.

I went back to Jo-Ann Fabrics and get a second pen and I noticed that they come in two different sizes of tips; a medium (used by most people here) and a fine. The medium tip is about 3/16" (.081"/2.05mm) and the fine is about half that size, (.043"/1.1mm).

I'm thinking that the fine tip may be a better way to go (see photo). Less wasted paint, less paint on unwanted areas, less paint to wipe off and certainly wide enough to cover the stitching. I bought two fine tips to do my entire interior.

I also have attached a couple photos showing the dyed stitching and logo outline on my headrests. The stitching was done with Elmer's Painter's pen and red outline on the logo was done with Fabric Mate. The logo needs to be darkened...a little too pink.

Lookin good! Were you able to do the stitching on the cloth parts (around the base of the seats, etc) without incident?

I used Elmer's paint pens before. BEWARE it is actually acrylic paint NOT DYE and will eventually come off.

Yes, and the bottom of the headrests are cloth also. I used the Fabric Mate fine tip on the cloth areas....one stitch at a time.
