no reason for you not to go...you are close. Sometimes, I go just to sit in the stands and watch the weekend racers race around to see what their cars can do. We can meet up there this summer.

Just a little excerpt from Car and Driver on the Subject:

With 650 hp, no bend in the road will be far away. To address those curves, the new GT500 gets optional electronically-adjustable Bilstein shocks. Part of the Performance package—which also includes a Torsen limited-slip diff and Recaro seats—the Bilstein dampers offer drivers a choice of Normal and Sport modes. If you intend to unleash your Shelby on a closed course, you might want to opt for the Track package, too. It adds supplementary coolers for the engine oil, differential, and transmission.

That is certainly the case for me. If I were interested in running at the drag strip, I'd be considering a COPO Camaro or a Cobra Jet Mustang, and not a ZL1.

Haven't read all the replies here but for $7895 more the ZL1 is certainly the way to go. Definitely a lot more potential too. Both have price adjustments so probably the equal there. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...eca/specs.html

Do you have a licensed racing team? No? Then good luck buying a COPO or Cobra Jet. Those are reserved for professional drag racers, not weekend warriors. Until GM or Ford produces a street legal car intended/engineered specfically for the drag strip, I guess the ZL1 or GT500 will have to do. You may not like it or agree, but that's the way it is.

Where is it stated that one must be a member of a licensed racing team to purchase a COPO Camaro or a Cobra Jet Mustang?

If one were interested in drag racing, why would one need a street legal vehicle to run at the drag strip?

Based on the laptimes, if these two cars went to that track and had a 350-mile race, the Camaro would beat the "best mustang ever made" by 3 laps! Think about that. And as for a 650-hp GT500, just look at the lap times of the ZR1 vs ZL1 at the ring from last year. The ZR1, with over 600 hp and much less weight and better aero wasn't that much faster when you take the length of one lap into account. The 2013 GT500 may be impressive in a straight line, but no one would take it in a fight with the ZR1, so with the same old Mustang lack of technology and refinement, all you're going to get is a lot of wasted energy from the motor. Power means nothing if you can't put it down. Besides, if Ford gets to brag about the Shelby-enhanced Mustang, I'm sure SLP, Lingenfelter, or any of those guys would be more than happy to take on anything Carol Shelby or Jack Roush can crap out. If its the best car that rolls out of Dearborn vs the best car that rolls out of Oshawa, I'll take GM everytime.

I don't think GoldenBear needs a COPO to go fast in a straight line, his ZL1 vert does it just fine. I am waiting for someone to give me a similar car that is faster than the ZL1 in a straight line Please don't bring up the Great Blue Hope the 2013 Shelby They have released ZERO real numbers and we know they have problems getting going. Right now the ZL1 is the Living Legend and just cleaned house with Boss 302.

Wheres the video of the ZR1 vs the Mustang GT? If we're going to race cars from different classes, lets be even about it. If you have to roll out a Shelby to win a race against a stock SS, that says a lot.
