Looks like a Mazda6, and NOT an Aston to me. The problem with the Mazda 6 and this car, is that they appear to be trying to look like a Rapide but more boring and toned down. There's nothing worse than looking like a boring version of a hot car. I felt the Jaguars looked horrible for the same reason.

There's a reason why it might remind you of a Mazda and Aston...

Then, on the other hand, there’s Moray Callum, who previously led Mazda's design team and now heads design for the Ford brand in North America. This a chief designer who makes sense to normal human beings. Moray’s from Scotland and design sense must run in the family because he’s the younger brother of Jaguar & Aston Martin design director Ian Callum.

While Callum headed Mazda design, the company turned out design winners like the 2003 Mazda3 sedan and the 2005 MX-5 roadster. The amiable Scotsman now leads the design team for Ford North America, and he couldn’t look happier.

I have to agree with the last line there... The Fusion looks very nice, but mid-sized cars are for people who want something that does doesn't stand out. I am glad they're making that class more attractive though because if I were to get a daily driver, it'd probably be a midsize. I'd probably try to find a wagon though, but those are hard to find from the big 3...

Ford proved that wrong in the past with the egg shaped Taurus of the late 80's - early '90s. That thing was far from bland and stood out... until everyone and their grandma were driving one

The 3rd gen Taurus is actually a PERFECT example of how the midsize sedan market is not meant to be unique or stand out. Sales tanked when the 3rd gen debuted, the majority of sales in the first model year was to fleet. The "unique" design of the 3rd gen cost it its bestselling title to the Camry.

3rd gen Taurus was a bad example of a car period, whoever thought that ovals was the next big thing should have been shot. Not the 1st gen and second get Tauruses were were pretty radical for the time (especially the 86 model) and this vaulted them to the top. THis is probably what ford is hoping for again. Not so sure it will work this time and another big issue is this. 13 Fusion, 13 Altima, 13 Accord, 13 Malibu, all new models. Should be very interesting.
