if connected by usb you can control with the radio head plus song info will show on radio.
not to mention digital vs analog.

It's nice to be able to plug it in and use the head unit/steering wheel controls (which you won't have) to control the iPod instead of the iPod itself but there really isn't too much of a point IMO.

That's dubious at best. In the Camaro, the iPod does all the decoding and just sends the raw audio across. Not sure of the DSP/decoder that the PDIM module has, but you may be better off with a USB drive since the iPod's DSP is mediocre. The audio is converted to analog and sent from the PDIM to the head unit anyways.

When you say raw audio do mean the ipod sends analog audio to the head unit?

Also, by connecting your iPod via USB cable, it works as a charger. So you don't have to worry about draining the battery

The USB is a true digital signal out of the iPod. Analog only comes from the phones jack. I will definitely getting this part. It was the only thing that the 1SS didnt have that i wanted. So sweet.

It's uncompressed digital audio but it doesn't really matter. It just goes to the PDIM and from there it's analog to the head unit. It's still using the iPod's decoder/DSP so that's where the level of quality is coming from. iPods use a lackluster decoder/DSP so I wouldn't be too surprised if the one in the PDIM is better. Yea, with the aux jack it's analog one step earlier but unless you have a crap cable, you won't notice any difference.

I dont know, there is a huge difference in sound between connecing the usb port of my zune, to using the headphone jack for playback, unless thats just the zune (which Ive felt has always been superior for music anyways). I got so mad at the usb failure that I started using the 3.5mm jack, and it sounds like $hit, so now I use CDs again, like Im in the 90's.

Interesting. Maybe your aux cable sucks? I'll try it with my Zune later. But yes, the Zune does reportedly have a better DAC than the iPod. There's really not much of a technical reason why the Aux coming from the Zune would be worse than the USB. The basic paths go as follows...

USB/Zune
Digital Compressed > PDIM. Analog > head unit

iPod (usb)
Digital uncompressed > PDIM. Analog > head unit

Analog (with pdim)
Analog > PDIM. Analog > head unit

Analog (no PDIM)
Analog > PDIM
