I read the car and driver article as well. I am sure that the new v6 mustang is a worthy competitor to our cars. Maybe it is a little quicker, but it will still be very much a driver's race. No doubt it is a nice car, I am just not a big fan of the styling. The only thing that suprises me is that every article I read keeps stating that the mustang v6 is limited at 113mph. So at least for the time being we have that advantage.

Most of you fail to realize the article is not about speed, it's about drivability and comfort. The assume Automatic owners simply want the style of the car and performance is secondary.
Basicall they are saying the would give up .4 tenths of second for a better drive and style

I do remember Car and Driver saying that the Mustang GT was a better, more comforable, better driving car then the Camaro SS despite the Camaro SS being faster and Camaro fans went nuts and hated Car and Driver. Besides, Motor Trend, Car and Driver already said the Mustang V6 was the better car. Who cares what CNN says lol.
Besides, I'm no fanboy of any of the cars. I love my 2010 Camaro v6 and if you've read my previous posts you'd see that but after being on this forum seeing how childish some of you act when the Mustang wins, well I makes me sick. I'm currently trying to sell a 4-runner to get a 2003 Cobra or a 2002 Trans-AM. I bought my 2010 Camaro v6 because it was beautiful and because it had 304 hp. I've just been getting beat by about every other car that has around the same ammount of horse power or less because of how much my car weighs. I got my car for looks and power but have came to the realization that it isn't that fast as I have friends with Z28's, GT's that all have beat me. Raced a 96 Cobra with 305 hp and he beat me about 4 car lenths, that is enough to make you pissed considering we have about the same hp. The New v6 Mustang runs what a 305 hp car should and Chevrolet really dropped the ball. It seems all they cared was looks and hp. They had to slap 312 hp in the v6 Camaro just to make it decent because of the weight. I can buy a car and not even be a fan of the brand. I think the 82-2002 Camaro's are ugly as sin. I do however like the style of the 94-2004 Mustang GT. Love the older 64-71 Mustangs, 67-71 Camaros. I despise the 80's Camaros and Mustangs. If you did read my other posts you'd know that I usually correct anyone that gives wrong information. |

Fun conversations in this thread. Maurdib, I totally agree with all your comments. And I stick by my original post above - insert and highlight 2011 Ford motor/transmission point of the article. I always knew GM would bring the Camaro back because of its popularity (owned a new 73). When seeing the first mag and online pics, I knew I would get one without knowing any other specs. I was blown away when I saw the 2010 specs (and, yes, checked the rival Mustang specs - no comparison, no surprise). Happily, I was born and raised during the muscle car years and through much of that learned the reputational qualities of the big 3 mfgs. FYI - It was mostly all GM (details stripped). Tough deciding V8 or V6, auto or manual (tap shift helped me decide this one - auto). With my lead foot, I opted for the V6 after test drive when accidentally popping the manual tran peeling out at a stop sign. I also calculated that just the sight of the V6 would scare the daylights out of probably 98% of the 2010 Mustang dudes (proven right already - 'fellow comrades in competition'). I didn't expect to always be so much ahead of future cars with my 2010. Keep the SS and the aftermarket news coming. Maybe, 2011s have nearly caught up in speed, but haven't read much about the 2011 SS. Sorry 'bout the chapter'.

Question for the Camaro techies on here. I think I found a 95 mph limiter/governor using the tapshift manual M6 on topend. Didn't need more at the time and not a problem, just curious. Isn't this near the 1/4 mile time for the V6? Wondering if this same limiter would be using M6 (S) auto? I won't be able to check topend unless I go west to some desert roads sometime. I think have read on here about 155 mph, but thinking that may have been for the V8, not the V6. That 160 speedometer gotta be there for a reason.

Yeah, Car n Driver i forgot, sorry, it was 104. Now back to CNN and my post, READ again plz. I was saying about auto. If CNN will use m6 in another tests, we will compare. And "bullshit" word i used was about MT, cos every their "review" is a paid propagation of the ford, that is obvious to me. They have to sell new stangs somehow... No problem with another magz. Seems their reviews are fair. So again to my post, nothing changed: stang is faster and more expensively for 1-1.5к. No problem make camaro as fast as a stang in a same price with mods. And still ul be better in everything : tranny, independent suspension, comfort, appearance.

As anyone, mag or otherwise, run a Mustang with base gears? The 2:73s? If not, no one knows how we'll compare to that car. The car that most rags are running has 3:31s (IIRC), so not only is weight an advantage, so is the gearing. Could be why this Mustang didn't respond as well? Maybe it had the 2:73s?
In any case, with the performance package, stock for stock, we'll be looking at the back of the Mustang, unless the driver sucks. That's why you line them up though! I've beaten GTs, turbo 4s and even a Corvette. I've also lost to GTs, SS Camaros and a turbo 4. It happens. Again, that's why you line them up! |

MUSTANG
Test car price: $32.975 (that $1k more than a base 1SS) CAMARO Test car price: $30,410 Who wants to bet... that with that $2.5K (extra cash you didn't spend on a Mustang) you could spend it on your Camaro mods and it would squash that Mustang in the 1/4 mile! Personally, I wouldn't spend 30+k on a V-6 Camaro or Mustang! But the Camaro is by far the better deal!!!

I'd take that bet. Even the fastest bolt on v6 camaros just broke into 13's. Anyway, I think optioning the cars to that level are just stupid. That 2.5k probably went toward navigation and possibly the glass roof, things that are not available on the camaro. I don't know who would spend 30k on either v6 model. IMO if you're going to spend that much, just get the v8!

It went to gears, remote start, 18 rims and so on... There is nothing to talk about really until some real ppl buy v6 and go to track, cos paper wars and not very fair magazines are just childish.
About v8... well, for example, v8 will be 8-9k more for me, cos i needed to ship it to Europe and pay on our country custom. v6 is 2700 and for v8 i would pay 6k+ only to cross the border... Plus fuel, plus taxes, plus insurance. The best for me was to get v6 and put 5-6k for turbo, sc setup in the future, so il be as fast as v8 is with all options i needed and for 3-4k less in money. So if u ask who would spend 30k on either v6 model - its me. |
