I see the problem, you got the info from fox (faux) news. Fox is a corporate propaganda channel, you keep watching that filth, you'll go blind and grow hair on your palms.

The name of this thread is GM Mistakes. It wasn't a mistake that GM made in paying these ridiculous labor costs. (Salaries, benies, and VEBA) They were held hostage to have to pay them. That's not their fault.

There are mistakes that GM made. But being extorted from by the union isn't one of them. Read about the Andolushia AL steel mill in the past. It's either close the doors or give in to a union. The steel mill closed the doors. 550 morons who were allready making more than anyone else in the area, out of work.

But how about GM doing things like building GMC Sierra I think, and a Silverado and basicaly competing against themselves. I mean how much sense does that make.

What if I bought the office space down the street from me, and named it something different and opened up shop doing the same thing. Hey I have two business two seperate sets of overhead costs; Advertising, utilities, labor, etc. and half the clients. What kind of moron am I now?

This guy makes a lot of sense.. However I still want a rebadged Camaro called a Firebird in four years time once the Camaro fever and sales dip down. Then you cut production of the Camaro accordingly in about half and create the Firebird in the same plant. That would be smart business at that point in time and keep the customers and enthusiasts happy. But I do agree with you on the Sierra and Silverado..

Well, considering the news of performance cars on indefinate hold coupled with the Pontiac cuts, I think the Firebird is dead.

GM just spread it's self too thin. Ford if I'm not mistaken, still hasn't asked for any money. Might change but you have to tip your hat to ford.

No doubt. Ford has done very well considering. And the new Knight Rider show does pretty well for advertising the Mustang. I hope the new Transformers movie does a good job advertising the Camaro, however I don't like what they did to the Camaro for that movie..

Hope it looks better in the movie than it does in the pics. I think it will.
Too bad it would cost too much in production but a Transformers series for TV would be cool.

Somethings gotto give. Either they take a cut in pay, or GM keeps hacking jobs. (wait, while they are restructuring people are going to get laid off anyways so it comes down to a cut in pay)

You realize, the same thing that is happening to GM happened to ford a few years ago. Luckily for them, it was before the credit crunch, so they were able to get loans, loans that are no longer available to GM. looking back on it, if Ford had done better, they may have held off getting loans for a few more years, and would be right in the same position as GM. If that's not irony, I don't know what is.

Wagoner is obviously on $1/year. Other Execs had their pay cut 40%. All salaried workers got their pay cut 3-7%. So yes, they are cutting pay too. They've also been cutting benefits and raising fees on things like company vehicles for the last few years.

Yep, but it's gonna go farther than that...

Both of you are giving examples of different classes of cars. Heirachy....Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Caddy....they aren't competing...it's just a different class. So, if/when Chevy make the Firebird or Trans Am, it will just be a higher class of the Camaro. Ford and Dodge do the same thang...Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth...etc...

I say another mistake was that GM had to many brands in America, Let see:

Saab
GMC
Chevy
Buick- WTF
Pontiac
Saturn
Cadillac
Hummer

Umm...., 1 luxury brand, one ... searching for the word ... well chevy fits that place anyway, and a brand for trucks, hence GMC

3 or 4 brands should do it
