I'm installing one right now on an LS3. I need to turn the elbows 180 deg to face the engine. Do they both turn? I got the center one turned but the outer one won't budge. Should it turn counterclockwise?

The center one is just a press fit as you noticed and can rotate to any position. The outer one with the check valve is threaded. You could turn it out but will have to pull off the center fitting first.

Yes, turn it counter clockwise as it is threaded all the way in. Can you post a picture so I can see what direction is best?

Just to clarify for Tracy, there are 2 seperate noises. The internal valve make a ball bearingish rattle which is resolved by replacing the valve fitting with a non-valve fitting. This removes the rattle but as Tracy has said you will eliminate the anti-reversion function (not an issue with me). The second noise is the hissing that I have described and that is my present issue.
Russel James, I had the same thing when I got mine, the fittings were facing the wrong direction. Just do as IndeedSS1 said and you'll be fine! I hope there is someone in Fl that has the probelm so Tracy can witness it himself! |

My noise is not originating from the check valve on top of the can.
I can hear the ball inside the valve doing it's thing, but that is not it. As stated earlier, changing that check valve to a straight fitting makes no difference. Again,it sounds like it is coming from inside the can and reverberating through the hoses. Went out to the garage to listen again. I'm wondering if the emulsion tube inside is coming loose now? .........

Ok,
Went out to the garage to look at it again. I found that if you rapidly tap the side of the can you can hear the ball rattleing inside the check valve,it is real "loose" I don't remember hearing a rattle when I installed it. Is there supposed to be a spring or something that hold the ball in the closed position when not running? I think it might be coming from there afterall. Someone go tap the side of their can.

67motorcat, If you still have the checkvalve installed that's what the rattle noise is! It WILL make noise if you tap on the can. It's a free floating steel insert in the outlet fitting that will close and open depending on the vacuum from the system. If you object to the rattling Tracy can send you a output fitting without the valve, which is what I did. As I've stated in earlier posts, my issue right now is the loud hissing noise at idle.

Took the thing completlely out of the car.
I found, maybe, when I rotated the valve to be pointing in the right direction during the intial install the seal to the can may have been compromised. The valve rattles freely. No spring and looks much like an old school PVC valve on the inside. That combined with the slight vacum leak may amplify the noise? The problem is when the valve is oriented in the direction it needs to go,it doesn't sit down flush to the top of the can.A few threads are showing.

I think the seal where it enters the can is leaking.I need to keep the check valve because I going to be putting a Maggie soon. The cut threads on the can don't look like they mesh well with the plastic threads of the valve. Once they are loosened they are not tight anymore.Maybe some kind of thread sealer needs to be added?
