The mechanic that installed my GFX said he had to cut the tips of the exhaust. Is that correct and does anyone know why. Thank you!

I don't really know. I kept my stock tips on, but that was because I am getting all new exhaust anyways, so I wasn't going to pay labor to have different tips put on something getting thrown in the steel bin!

I have noticed that the tips do get VERY close to the stainless steel exhaust housings on the GFX, so maybe there could be potential buzzing from metal touching metal, or paint damage maybe, but I have driven the car for hours and touched the housing and it isn't hot at all, so in the end I am not sure of the reasoning.

The instructions call for the exhaust tips to be cut and a slip cover (provided in kit) placed over the remaining pipe. This is the best picture I have but notice the pipe does not have a "cut-off" look:

TIMELY THREAD as I just had this discussion with my dealer on Monday. I too am black-on-black and wanted GFX painted... they agreed to do so but want me to sign off a waiver against chips... NOT peeling paint... stated concern was that the spoiler especially will be subject to road stones and wear/trear that will chip 'em up... I said "fine, but paint 'em"

Now thinking I should get 3m treatment on the front lower piece at a minimum as added protection.

Car expected at dealership TODAY!

How long are u guys planning to wait to 3M after the GFX are painted? (To make sure paint is fully 'cured'?)

excellent question - for my dealer's body foreman! :-) There clearly needs to be a little curing time allowed I'd guess...

BTW!!! Didja see the youtube video of the guy sandblasting a hood that was 1/2-covered with Pro-Tect?

Thread is here - this stuff is incredible!
