For a 16 year old, the V6 for sure. The power of the SS would be too much for any young driver to resist. The gas and insurance would be much cheaper, as well. I just think the SS is too much car for someone who doesn't have at least a few years driving experience.

I'd deffinately suggest you go for the v6/RS package!

Prospective Buyer, I hope you're able to get the car you want at the price your parents can afford. Hopefully we can add you in to the Camaro family soon!

Get the V6 with the RS package. Even at age 23 I want the V8, but went with the V6 because I know I would be way to tempted to let it rip on the public roads. Sound like your a responsible young man, but get behind the wheel of a 400+ horse power car, along with not having a lot of experience... Bad things can happen. (just look at some of the threads). Good Luck!

My 1st car at 16 was 69 Camaro with a 327 with 400+. From then on I was hooked on speed and had more tickets then you could ever imagine plus a few years without a license and it will haunt your insurance record for a long time. Not that i regret because believe it or not it sort of defines a person and has since then! Not that you cant do the same in a v6 making 300+HP but a little less tempting! Go with the 6 and use the money to make it your own! dress it up, stereo etc...
I am at 44 now and just got the V6 and only because I have a new baby and money is tight. Sounds like your dad wants the v8. I think he would be borrowing it more often if it's the v8 and you might be getting undeserved groundings! ![]() Neuf Cruz |

Do you know when we will be able to order the 2012 V6 models? I heard on these forums it will be this summer?

It was ninety nine cents!

My heart tells you to get the SS, because I love mine so much.
Then again, I'm 32, make good money, and have a clean driving record. I've also been driving since I was 14, and know how to handle a car in almost any given scenario. If I was you, I would stick with the V6. It's got plenty of power for anyone. You will save your parents some money on insurance, and the gas mileage is marginally better. It's also probably a bit easier to drive. Responsible or not, at 16 you are still really learning the ropes when it comes to driving a car. I had plenty of "Oh SH*T" moments in the 87 chevy K5 that I learned on. The GOOD news is these cars come with enough safety features to make even my over protective italian mother feel comfortable. Stabilitrak, traction control, airbags in more locations than you'd think. It's a great car, and you're making a great choice! Looking forward to seeing your story unfold, and of course, welcome to the community. Post up some pics of that beauty when you bring her home!!!!!

FFS don't street race plz.
If anyone wants to challenge you, smile and know that you very likely have a much nicer car than they did when they were 16. No matter what, there will almost always be someone faster somewhere. It's a big $$$$ game, the guy/girl with the fattest wallet will win.

I'm 22.. Got my 1SS/RS in October
I've never driven an LT V6 so I'm slightly biased towards the SS, but i've seen the V6 and they move..they have power. If you don't speed, aren't going to race it at the track and such. Go for the LT/RS It's gas milage, looks and price oriented. Your insurance company may still hate you because it'll be a newer car. You can't go less than full coverage if you are financing it at all btw. Just my $.02. |
