The one time in my life I needed my firearm, I was 19 and legally barred from carrying it. The ~17yo thug who threatened my life and took my property had no such convictions barring him from carrying a weapon though. Funny how that works....

So now that I'm 27 and able to carry my weapon, aside from work (I work on a military base thanks Uncle Sam for disarming me), my weapon goes everywhere I do, especially since I now have a family to protect in addition to myself.

It doesn't matter if he had no priors or 100 priors. If he's going to carry illegally (which he did at the age of 17) he's going to carry illegally regardless.

It's the same thing as the "gun free zones" on campuses. If a psycho is going to shoot up his school, one sign that says "gun free zone" won't stop him.

There's never been a recorded crime in my (6 year old) neighborhood. I have a loaded 12 gauge under my bed. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Passenger seatback pocket. Easy access from the driver's seat.

For everyone without a CWP, just ask for ...... and wait ......

I chimed in here yesterday then had lunch today with a guy who carries. He needed it last week he told me. Was getting gas, heard a girl scream. She was being attacked and got away, he pulled and yelled at the guy. The guy ran, he called the cops. Before that, he hadn't needed it in 20 years.

And yes he was retired military as well. We are all rightwing thugs!

Edited to add, I am totally down with the hip mounted mini guns! I always wanted a 50 cal mounted on my Jeep ala the Rat Patrol!

The only thing necessary for evil to win is for good men to do nothing. Sure...it's just insured money. Sure, your car is insured. Sure, the x,y,z thing the bad guy wants might be insured.

People are also insured. You simply do NOT know if the guy waving a gun in your face only wants money.....or if he's a psycho who doesn't like to leave witnesses laying around. While you're mulling that over and cowering for your life, I'll be doing something about the situation.
I just hope I'm not in the shared situation where you want to be 'hero' trying to save someones 'insured' property while jeopardizing their priceless life.

So...did the guy need to brandish his weapon...or just yell? And the way you relayed it...the guy ran before he pulled his weapon.

regarding the 'right wing thug' comment. Funny. I'm registered Republican and stated that I support the right to keep and bear arms. MY issue is the judgment that goes hand in hand with that responsibility. Honestly, you guys are starting to scare me and question whether I should support the right to keep and bear arms.

And I hope I'm nowhere near a cowering, sniveling person who's waiting for the police to save them.

Also, I hope that when you are confronted with that situation, you don't live a lifetime of what ifs when you witness someone being murdered because the bad guys wanted no witnesses. It's hard thing to ask yourself everyday "what if you'd have come to their defense" when you chose to hide instead.

I've seen numerous news stories about a teller at a bank who was shot simply because the robber could. It had nothing to do with her trying to stop the robbery. Bad guys don't need a reason to do bad things. They just do them. You will never know if they are only after "insured money" or if they are crazy enough to shoot everyone simply because they can.

LOL...your endless need to paint the gun carrying person as the 'hero' and EVERYONE else as the 'cowering, sniveling person' is not doing much to bolster your argument...in fact, quite the opposite.

And who said I would hide? If one does not carry a gun, you automatically assume that they would 'hide'? What does that say about you? That you need a gun to stand up for your rights?

Best of luck to you. I hope you never need to wield your firearm, regardless of whether that need is actual or perceived.

Sigh, no the gun made him take off. I found it amusing that this conversation goes on and then he tells me this at lunch today. Anecdotal evidence proves nothing as you well know. If this tame conversation makes you question your support, then I posit that you are not as strong a supporter as you think.

where my XD-45C rests when not on my person... It's in a Comp-Tac C-Tac holster
first one works when its just me in the car- the fiancee doesn't mind it, if she's riding, but I'll move it to my side when she's riding.

I can set it in the driver's side door cubby, but I really don't like it there- it's awkward and I'm right handed so it's less than ideal.

By my right leg is it's common spot- concealed from most, easy access.

then there's always open carry in the seat..

Oh really? You don't like the taste of your own medicine? What about on page one of this thread when you said:

when I read that comment..this was the 'voice' I heard it in...

Why paint people out as "the guy who gets shot" or a cartoon character because they want to excercise their rights of self-defense?

You are severely limited in your options if you haven't got the means to defend yourself. Are you trying to say you're some martial arts master who would disarm the attacker? I seriously doubt it. That leaves you two options, hiding or running and screaming.

And I've seen countless news articles about what happens when someone simply 'complies' with the attacker and ends up dead anyway.

I want a fighting chance in that situation. You apparently don't. Hey, that's fine. Criminals need sheep who will give into their demands. It's why they become criminals in the first place -- the easy buck. Taking what's mine will not be so easy.

That's the same thing every person carrying a firearm hopes. Whether they're a cop, a soldier or some random guy with a CHL license. No one WANTS to use their weapon on another person (well, no one except for criminals). But we carry because we know bad guys are out there and we're not going to make their "jobs" easier on them.
