I'm sure it's already been said ,but It's all about factory Hp. That means way more than anything someone can write a check for in the aftermarket world to me.

so what if you can slap a blower on your car for 6k. is that including all the supporting mods? transmission, rearend, suspension? probably not for 6k. if done right it will cost you closer to 15-20k for all the supporting mods. everything that will make it more like a z28 less like your SS. and you still won't have any of the visual differences. with no warranty. . .just one bad ass car.

but in the end it won't be a z28. . .read my signature. he's the same guy that kept the faith and kept telling us to keep the faith. I am not disappointed with the current SS. I am keeping the faith that the Z28 will be something very special.

so if you want to tell everyone how stupid or crazy we are for wanting a car that isn't official go right on ahead. I'll just ignore you like I have everyone else.

I'm just lost on these threads i guess coming from a modding background. To me buying a car for your top end goals as is just isn't very fun in my opinion. This is an opinion and it is mine.

In my mind the guy who put an intake and exhuast on himself earns more respect then a guy who buys a built car ........ be it the z28 or one built in a performance shop. Basically one guy did the work and put in the time ........... the other just swiped a card ........ who has the most reason to brag or be proud of what they have? Everyone will have their own opinion here of course and that can be argued till end of time itself.

Also i read these forums for fun and skim alot of topics (cept stereo those guys need suvs or something). I've seen some of the very people in here including me magazine race specs of cars .......... we are no better then the guy who was compairing cars by the forza 3 stats lol.

Quite simply put you bring the z28 fully warrantied to the track against the modded SS's and see how ya do (if even 2% of the z28 fans even buy one). Win or lose i personally will respect the modder more. And win or lose good luck keeping that warranty after they find out the car was tracked ........... and once that warranty does end where do you go from there? I bet you come to the darkside of modding and make that daring purchase of cold air intake that a shop will charge ya 400 to install lol.

**Factory Blower - Z28?**

OK... I am one of the gray haired old guys from "back in the day". I had a 69 SS 396, Turbo 400, 12 bolt posi etc. etc... 34 years ago. Saddest day in the world when I sold it...long story but a necessity at the time. I am going to buy either a 2011 2SS or hold out for the Z28. My concern... if the blower quality they use is anything like the one that was on my '97 Buick Riviera... you can keep the blower. Admittedly the Rivvie was a 6 cylinder and it hauled the groceries for what it was. But they wear out and they are NOT cheap when they let go. A word of caution... If I were going to buy one blown it would be with manual trans. My automatic trans went bye bye with the blower too. But I have to be honest... the car had 120K miles on it. So all in all I guess it did meet the 100K warranty and service life. Just my 2 cents. Either way...GEN 5 Camaros rock whether they are 6 cylinders or 8 cylinders, blown or simple injection.

so you want to spend less on your car initially, and more to end up at the same level a Z28 could potentially be modified to? I'm confused why not start with the best base platform possible for modding? pretty crazy if you ask me. just because you buy a 50k car and the warranty is touted as a buying point doesn't mean joe schmo is going to leave his car stock. I've met quite a few gt500 owners that don't have stock cars. lets just say one is twin turbo'd. . .and well I don't expect to touch it. not even on my bike.

we're pretty sure it's going to be the LSA. a lot of signs point to it. but it could be the ls8. . .haven't heard a lot about that engine that was suppose to come out along with the ls9 and lsa. who knows we will see. but this isn't the 80's/90's anymore. I'm about to go out and buy a 2500 hd duramax 07 with 132k on the odo. well if it's there and I don't find anything mechanically wrong that the seller has hid. and I'll be fine with owning a truck that has over 100k with a factory turbo on it. so don't worry.

ITT: SS Guys try to say that the z/28 is inferior to the SS because the SS has less power and lower cost from the factory.

If base cost and upgradability were your main issues, why did you buy an SS instead of a v6? Surely you could swap an LSX into a v6? All that you're saying makes the SS a better choice than the Z/28 can be said from the V6 to the SS. Its all up to personal preferences, budget and goals; none of which are debatable.

In addition - with all due respect - I could give a you-know-what what someone thinks about what I do to my car. Who's business is it, anyways? I do plan on simple bolt-ons that will enable me to either BE CARB-legal or sneak by without trouble (i.e. pulley/tune/etc.). Why in the Heck wouldn't I want to start on the most advanced platform that fits my budget? I guess having a chassis and powertrain that is better suited to higher power and performance is a negative because I didn't build it myself. Having an engine that makes in the nieghborhood of what CTS-V produces (along with the tranny and the rest of the beefed-up powertrain) means nothing I guess GM engineers don't know anything about the dynamics and what-not of the car they designed... I'm sorry - this is just one of those topics that doesn't make sense, IMVHO. Why does anyone have to question the purchase or plan of someone else's ride? Many people here have already mod'd their SSs to out perform Z28; I'm sure of that. However, they don't have a warranty and it's still not a Z28. Maybe that wasn't their goal, and that's totally cool.

All these threads and posts deminishing the heritage and meaning of Z28 really just pisses me off.

Done with rant :troll:

change that pulley on the z28 - bye bye warranty
tune that z28 - bye bye warranty
track that car - bye bye warranty

Most of you said it yourselfs to the modders when the SS came out and we started modding.

Personally i cant wait to see you guys get pulley pullers to get the sc pulley off when it takes us maggie guys 4 bolts in and out.

no one is saying the z28 is going to suck. I do believe some people will be let down by it after all the hype they built up.

What i am saying though is people who mod will look at your car and say cool a z28! We ask you owners what you have done and you say nothin keeping it stock, or i put on a cai ......... your not gonna hold our attention plain and simple.

And after what ive seen of sc on this car compaired to turbo results ........ its not a cool thing to buy a factory sc'd car, because from my point of view sc sucks and yes im a sucker who fell for the sc hype too. Personally for that 50k to be feasible i'de need to see an ls7 in it.

Fair points on the warranty aspect - SS owners did that as soon as they started bolting on blowers and the rest of the goodies, too. My point was that Z28, if it comes like it's looking like, will be substiantially faster than SS, so why not start off with as much as you can get? What - it's better to blow a warranty, reliability, and value on a $50K car a person is mod'ing just to conform to someone's idea of what respect for a car-guy means? Okay - if that's good for some people, more power to ya', but that doesn't mean squat for me.

I really don't think this thread is going to make sense to anyone who is of that opinion; that's fine. However, if it's going to turn into a bunch of bickering or hard feelings, maybe we should all step away from the computer, lol. Personally - I don't think you're a sucker for going the way you've described. It looks like an opportunity for you to work on your ride some more

radz28, I wholeheartedly agree with your last two posts! When I was thinking about buying my second new Camaro in '69, I certainly did not entertain the idea of buying one with a 327cid (been there, done that in '67) or buying a SS350 and modding it to suit my wants/needs, I wanted to buy the version that was already close to what I wanted, so I opted for the Z/28 because I wanted a small block screamer that handled well (unlike the handling of the SS). Was that my be all end all vehicle because I opted for the Z/28? No, I did what most every serious car person does, I started modding it. Sure it was minor at first, removed the AIR (air injection reactor smog gear), replaced the single point distributor with a dual point out of a Vette, and so on until I finally reached the point where I had the engine balanced and blueprinted. Was my Z/28 that unusal back then? Heck no, all of the serious car people I hung out with had highly modded vehicles. Wish I still had some pics of a friends little "boxy '63/'64 Nova" that had 12" wide tires on the rear, 327 with solid lifter cam and all kinds of work topped off with three deuces, now that was a serious wheelstanding screamer that could really turn the 1/4 QUICK!! So I don't really understand some of these SS owners that seem to be really "offended" that other people are planning to opt for the most performance they can get from the factory and may still mod it. If your decision is to go with an SS and mod it, great, I'm sure you'll have fun and a nice vehicle with excellent performance as well. If someone decides to start with a Z/28, great, you've now got the best factory package available at this time whether you mod it or not, and you too will have fun and a nice vehicle with excellent performance. And isn't that what it's about? All of us are Chevy performance fans and we should be OK with the choices that others make, it is after all their car and their choice.

Thanks Clyde. I didn't think I was articulating myself well, but I think at least my point made it across to at least ONE person, lol.

I'm trying to fight the feeling about your statement that I highlighted... Perhaps because I've been waiting for Z28, I have some bias, or perhaps I'm just being too emotional about it, but I don't like thinking there are people here who are more offended that Z28 will be higher than SS in the food chain. SS is a great car, and full of potential. People are clearly demonstrating it every day! I feel like I'm reading more and more hate threads amongs the Camaro legion directed within than I'm seeing about supporting the Community and focus on the "other" car I really hope I'm wrong, because that would be so disappointing to me. I'll be honest and admit that I might still have to go with SS instead of Z28 but that doesn't mean I feel like Z28 should be better and such. I don't know...
