Just got off the phone with my friend that is a engineer at GM (differnt department), he talked to one of the engineers in the Camaro department. They came up with 2 fixes that will be in all the new built camaro's. 1 is a larger trany rod/shaft or bolt thingy. The other part of fix is some thing in software. Sounds like they wont be recalling any just fixing / changing them if problem occurs on the released built ones.

I'm not telling you to baby it for the rest of your life. I'm recommending you follow Scott's advice & not hammer on it until we have more answers which will hopefully just be a couple of days, maybe more. All of the information about the failure is not known at this time. Scott just said today that they were still throughly investigating the details. Until they know what exactly is going on and who it effects how to you possibly expect them to tell you specifically what your cars status is? The problem may only be a small percentage of a specific VIN range, not the entire range. As much attention is being paid to this, people seem to skip right over the words coming out of the blue bow-tie's mouth. ![]() Here's the snippet from Scott earlier, I HAVE EDITED THE FORMATTING FOR EMPHASIS, the only text I removed was his comment about the Dentist, just in case people didn't make it past that first line ![]() Quote:
-They know there's a problem -They're working to resolve it as quickly as possible -They don't have all the answers yet -They'll let us know when they do, which hopefully will only be a couple of days I wouldn't stop driving my car, but I wouldn't hammer for a few days until everyone knows what's going on it either. Don't baby it, just drive it & without burning up tires, clutch, or the carpet under the gas pedal. I know it's hard to keep your foot out of it everyone, but there is a happy medium between the keys hanging on the wall and the car going on the flatbed. The vast majority of the planet seems to be able to do it most their entire life, I'm sure we can handle it till Monday (or maybe a bit later)...

Advice to Supermans for road trip
I think what Superman's is saying is that no matter what he now is "stressed out" because he has this feeling at any time his tranny output shaft will snap. (He is concerned about this over the lifetime of his vehicle, even after the warranty expires, which is still a valid concern.)
I want to say based PURELY ON STATISTICS, I BET anything he probably has nothing to be worried about. VERY, VERY few cars have been reported with an actual broken shaft. MANY people have come forward and said they have abused every inch of their car and nothing bad happened. My advice is just to drive the car AS IF you were never told of any such problems and wait and see what happens. Pay your AAA bill and pay a little extra and get AAA PLUS because they will tow it for free as far as 100 miles if you have that. (If possible also follow the advice about not dumping the clutch at 6000, or excessively flogging it. NO CAR should experience a dumping of any clutch. Thats just asking to snap something, maybe even pop some springs out of the clutch disk, or damage the rear end differential.) Ultimately "that's how it goes" if the tranny does break. It will be fixed though. Once more info is available later on, it will probably put everyone at ease. Once the official "fix" is well known. |

There are only a certain number that have issues - we're working on finding out which ones..... Unless you're doing a lot of burnouts, you should not have anything to worry about -- |

![]() Pay attention: We discovered a problem less than a week ago. We are working around the clock with the supplier to determine which units are involved. We ARE NOT DOING burnouts to 'test' them. Please - calm down. I understand your concern -- and if we'd discovered this two months ago and you had no info, I could understand your constant concern-- BUT -- we learned of it this week - WHAT IS IT that you want me to do? I can't tell you if we have NOT FINISHED WITH all of the investigation and have all of the answers, now can I???? I love ya dearly -- but please -- calm down! |

Every new Camaro comes with OnStar-- and free roadside assistance. IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT -- let me rephrase that -- IN THE VERY UNLIKELY EVENT that yours should fail -- simply hit the blue OnStar button - we'll be on there within a minute and we'll send in the cavalry to save you - and give you a car to drive in the meantime. |

My dealer just emailed me and stated that I am now at 4800. Is that a good sign or bad? He didn't state wether it was a 4D or 4B... Anyone have any insight?
