I liked the light placement better on the concept, however it is fine where they are. I agree though it would have been a better choice on the sides of the license plate and would be easier to change the bulb when it went out..

The only better place I can think to put em is vertically on either side of the license plate.

My guess is you remove the rear diffuser and reach up inside the bumper.

I don't see what all the fuss is about these or the backup sensors they are fine leave them
