People were too busy driving them to take them to car shows. Back then people actually used their cars for driving more than showing... They were really nothing anyone thought as being that special because GM was building so many different muscle cars.

I've had a change of opinion on car shows.

Car 1 - brand new car that the owner had a shop mod out. Owner knows little to nothing about the car except the cost.

Car 2 - brand new car modded by the owner. Owner works hard to afford the car.

Car 3 - classic car that the owner finds on Craigslist and send to a shop to have restored to perfection. Knows little to nothing about the car except how much it cost.

Car 4 - classic car that the owner restores by himself. Does most if not all of the work. Car is very nice but not perfect.

Let them all in.

I got sick of seeing rows upon rows of 32 Fords. Some were original steel, some reproduction steel and others fiberglass. A "new" 32 Ford built by a professional should be parked next to a brand new car.

There is a superiority snobbery element at almost all hobby oriented activities. Car shows, guitar shops, local golf tournaments, slot car track races, internet forums, boating events......you name it. It's always been there to some degree but seems more prevalent nowadays. Or maybe I just don't try as hard to fit in any more.

Alright so we all agree to disagree but I will say this because I do car shows all over and have a ton of money put into my car in mods that I think sets it a bit apart from the Camaro driven out of the showroom floor.
If your doing a car show for a charity, your an idiot if you don't open it up to all classes and all years and have different classes of trophies for different years. If you limit it to older cars, you are defeating the purpose of raising money for the charity and really all your doing is stating to everyone else, we are more important then you since we have older models. your basically putting on a show for you and your old school buddies to show off and really care less about the charity that you are suppose to be helping.
That is simply WRONG and Wrong in a BIG way. !! I hang out with a bunch of OLDTIMERS with older models who DO NOT THINK like that and they do recognize when a new guy comes along and puts some thought, creativity and money into modifying his new car. They recognize that he or she may be just as much of an enthusiast but may not have the time, patience or Garage space to work on an older model.
I make sure I bring my 16 year old son around to look at everyone of the older models and explain the time effort and money to restore some of those museum pieces.
I Love the older models but don't have garage space to start working on what I really want.

But I would be just as upset as the OP if it was advertised as an all make all year show and No effort was made to recognize a class for the newer models.

participant judged shows can often be a popularity contest and the local boys take home the hardware, that can be true from time to time. Professionally judged shows with different classes by years is the only fair way to go.

agreed, I don't think anyone should be excluded, especially from casual type events... but the thread isn't about exclusion, it's about someone with a new car expecting a trophy for it.

really it doesn't matter how old your car is, if you're only going to get a trophy you're missing out on what these events are meant to be. Besides, your $15 entrance fee would probably buy a nicer trophy than most car shows are handing out anyway.

Car shows are just not my thing. I have looked online in my area to see what is out there but it seems its dominated by oldies and I may not be a young wet behind the ears dude but old cars unless a really sweet old muscle car is there I may have a look but other than that there just isn't too much in it for the newer gen of muscle cars that I am into. I don't waste the time because a trophy really isn't that special to me and just something else that my maid has to dust..... just like others said if its a club of some sort as the sponsor then its your typical politics so why bother...
