Cars are essentially allowed to go as fast a prudent (well over 100 MPH in many cases). This was the 6th year.

So NJ is not spending 40K+ on toys to cruise the higways.

NJ didn't buy, lease, rent the car. And I agree the money for the options on a car designed for police work would be unjustifiable.

"Sorry to burst everyone's bubble about the corrupt and inefficient spending of tax dollars - especially for 21" wheels, but the car cost zero, zip, nada, nothing. It was a loaner from a prominent dealer in the area to be used for the Toys for Tots Run and the weekend only.

But, it did look good out there! Maybe GM will bring back the police package?"
This is a great cause... I'm sorry this thread may have gotten out of hand.
The Camaro I saw did take my breath away and I just had to share.. I edited the thread stating it was used for a fundraiser.

But c'mon, paying for halos, painted roof trim and custom wheels. That's some beaurcrat spending someone elses money! They are going to put all kinds of light on the car anyway.

2) You volunteer to go to the movies that support the actors life style. Taxes are not voluntary. That's a lame argument.

3) I have high regard for the job, but you choose that line of work. Buy your own Camaro. That is irresponsible government!
1) I should expand. I do agree that 21" wheels are certainly excessive. The halos are iffy, but more visibility at night for guys who drive for up to 12 hours (with obvious breaks in-between) is always appreciated. As far as IOM interior, unnecessary as well. Some of the 2SS features are actually very welcome in a cruiser. Ok, actually only the bluetooth is really beneficial. If they could put that on every cruiser, I'd be OH so grateful. I don't know what it's like for all cops everywhere, but here where I work, we NEED hands-free, because we pretty much HAVE to make calls while we drive at times (yes, we are often THAT busy). And no one knows what the job is truly like unless you actually do it, so I hope no one fools themselves in that regard here.

2) True, but movies are also unnecessary. Government services, especially police, are necessary. Try the alternative (no police)... see how long you like that... Lame argument. And considering the cost/benefit ratio per person, no complaints allowed. I don't know what it's like where you live, but here in my county, each citizen pays about $138/year for law enforcement. That's NOTHING. And I can say that. I'm one of those taxpayers, who makes less than many.

3) Again, that Camaro is excessive, but nothing wrong with a Camaro being a government car, especially if it makes the job more efficient. It's certainly NOT an outlandish car in some trims.

Thanks for the info Kahuna. I'm sorry, but I kinda ran with the whole "police should have bottom-of-the-line crap" argument that some people like to offer, and I take offense to as a cop. My bad.

OP we're cool. Just didn't want anyone to get a full head of steam, call their elected representative and start a dust-up about the top of the line for a patrol vehicle.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see a couple of them looping the Expressway. Those Chargers and Durangos just don't get it for me. And the Chevy Holden-Caprice isn't looking any better. Did I read that right - you are on the job?

NJ might not have paid for this vehicle yet, but those of us who live here know how corrupt the police can be in this specific state. seton hall students just paid for south orange nj's brand new fleet of chargers.. couple more years of bullshit tickets while ignoring the increasing crime in neighboring newark and east orange and i'm sure they will have all new camaros as well.
