Suggestion: Wait a while before moving threads.

It seems to me that many threads get moved very quickly. I can appreciate the organization of this, however, I do believe it causes threads to die too quickly.

Consider moving threads after they start to die down or go inactive. If it has a lot of responses, typically people are enjoying the material.

Once it gets moved, it goes out of sight, thus out of mind and dies. I do not think many frequent all of the forums here, just a select few.

Just my 2 pennies.

My personal stance on moving threads is that if we put topics where they belong, people who are interested in those topics will venture to the related sub forums. And most of the time we leave a link to the thread from the original sub-forum when a thread gets moved or merged. Keeping off-topic threads in 5th Gen General will make it a royal pain for anyone who is looking to talk about specific stuff, and would lead to more reposts (since they won't be expecting the latest Mustang news to be in 5th Gen General, for example). Plus, it will encourage members to continue posting threads in the wrong section and the rest of the site will die down and 5th Gen General will get even more chaotic than it is (currently it gets ~40 new threads per day, vs less than 15 for most other areas).

If you are afraid of losing threads you've posted in, I suggest making use of the automated subscriptions. With automatic subscriptions, once you've posted in a thread you no longer have to search through the site. They are all listed in your User CP. Plus, you can set it to give you an email alert when there is a new reply, either instantly (my personal preference), daily, or weekly. The e-mail contains a link going directly to the thread.
