Angry Furious about my 9500ci

I just spent almost $2000 on the 9500ci and I just got a speeding ticket.
The radar sounded "laser" and I was doing 63 in a 40, I immediately dropped down and hit the mute button twice when I got to about 43-45.
The LEO pulled me over and told me he got me going 20 over, but with a boat load of begging and pleading, he told me he would knock it down on 9 over, but no freebie.
What went wrong?
Could my shifters have malfunctioned?
I am so freaking mad it's not even funny.
I may have to get rid of this car, before I lose my license!

Just a suggestion.

I don't know anything about the 9500ci, but I do know that laser radar is just that. A laser beam that is on or off. They usually wait, aim and shoot. Once you detect it, you're too late...

I have several friends that are LEO's and all have told me that Radar Detectors are a complete waste of money. With LIDAR you're done!

laser detectors are pretty much useless. The laser beam is extremely narrow as compared to a radar beam. When your detector goes off, the laser is reading your vehicle, and your vehicle only. There is no warning from a stray radar wavelength.

I wouldn't rely on radar or laser detectors as a fool-proof way of avoiding tickets. A good radar operator will only activate his radar when he sees a vehicle he knows is exceeding the speed limit; thus the radar detector will also not go off until the speeder is the target and they are busted.

Save your money and follow the speed limit.

Speeding is not dangerous. The speed limits are set so artificially low so police can extort money out of citizens without taxing the life out of them to pay for politicians over-bloated salaries and piss poor overspending. I live right on the edge of a rural area and the speed limits on the highways are 55 MPH and I pass a half a dozen state troopers every time I drive on them but oddly enough when you head further up north the speed limit increases to 65 MPH and you don't see any troopers on the roads because they won't be able to extort as much money in an area where the speed limits are set to a more reasonable speed.

Sounds like the detector functioned perfectly. A cop hit you, and it went off.

Have never owned one, but, like others, I speed occasionally and in the 30 years I have driven I have received 2 tickets that cost about $125 on average. Figuring the same rate for the next 30 years and that adds up to $250 dollars. So let me see - $2000 for a radar detector with no guarantee of working and giving me a false sense of security to speed, or - drive sensibly and maybe get carried away once or twice the next 30 years for $250? I think I'll do without the radar detector and save $1750. Just saying...

I'm sorry, but 63 in a 40 is ridiculous.
Like everyone else said. The detector worked perfectly, as soon as the laser hits you, it's already too late.

No one has mentioned this, but I will. The Escort 9500 ci, is supposed to have laser shifting to prevent the laser from getting an accurate reading.

So you may want to check to see if your laser shifters are turned on.
