Thank god for warranties.. (Brakes, Hubs, and strange looks at the stoplight; oh my!)
![]() Brakes on the T/A are acting up; and I come to find that I probably got either a s**t set of pads, rotors or some combination of the pair.. All for corners were torn down to the hubs when the work was done because of the nature of what they were dealing with. Calipers too and they checked out. It's not effecting brake performance but good lord do I get looks at lights for the noise. It's almost like either the pads are dragging on the rotors or something.. it's a loud metallic swishing noise unlike any I've heard from any vehicle. Not quite a bad brake squeak but more like dragging sandpaper over a smooth metallic surface. Techs heard it but can't pinpoint it and want to test it again when it's dry (raining now). Anyone know if this is even brakes or could it actually be a hub bearing? If it were I'm sure I'd feel it in the steering but there's been no indication for it. So now both the shop and myself are at a loss as to what this could be. In any case I'm still saving myself $600+ in parts and labor.. and there's no way in hell I'd even be able to diagnose this without professional help (of both kinds.. :/ ) |

There are two thin metal spacers on each wheel (one at the top, one at the bottom) that always try to fall out when you open up the caliper. When I last did mine, I didn't seat them quite right and they caused this noise, plus a little squeak. Should be a real easy fix, just pop the top slide out and make sure they're lined up just right. Might not be this simple, but I highly doubt it's anything as serious as an axle rod... I'd at least check those out before you go dropping any money on a brake job.
You mentioned warranty, how much are they going to cover?
