Final word on msd boost a pump

Just finished the install of my new Whipple. Skipped the BAP part so I could hear it run. Going to do that tonight if it is worth doing. So does the BAP do any good at all on a new Camaro with the FPCM?? If it is a waste of time then I'll just upgrade to a bypass reg and a pair of walboro's or something down the road. Engine is totally stock at this point less the Blower.

As long as you have enough fuel flow and pressure, there's no reason at all to fool with a BAP. Do you have enough? Do you have any way of monitoring it? If it runs slightly lean, it will slightly (or majorly) damage your motor.

I've got a WB, Hp tuners, and a fuel pressure gauge in the car. Just haven't drove it yet with the blower, still on jack stands. Guess I'll hook up the BAP since I have it and then see for myself what the press does with it hooked up vs disconnected. Thought someone here would know for sure.

It's going to depend on boost/hp. For a low boost setup, you might be OK. You need to watch it like a hawk. Cast pistons aren't very forgiving when leaned out under boost.

Lesson learned regarding fuel delivery....Bite the bullet and make darn sure you have enough fuel and pressure. Here is what happens when you dont.

wow. What was your fuel setup and boost levels/mods when you did this to your pistons?

BAP's work perfectly fine on these cars if you hook them up in the correct location. If not, the car will just pull the voltage back out. They work perfectly fine though.

That was my poor piston..Set up was stock internals with e-force, arh headers, adm cai, rmcr tune. Nothing was done to fuel setup, i didnt have the knowledge i have now or would of changed it. I think it was at 9.5lbs avg.. Would of addressed fuel for sure if i knew what was going on.

Agreed ^^^. Fuel is critical, Short bursts in 4th gear on the Dyno to verrify a/f ratio does not show real world results.

Do bap's help, Absolutely. But it's all a balancing act.
Things like larger injectors, meth injection help.
Heat plays a large role, keep the fuel pumps cooler by keeping at least 1/4 of a tank minimum in there if you plan on getting on it. More like 1/2 a tank. Why risk it .

Well lesson learned I suppose. I am about to get a cam added to my setup and have been told the BAP will continue to be ok for the 550rwhp range on my auto. But I have had a couple tell me intank would be recommended talking about a 1500 dollar decision!

Yeah but money so well spent..Lingenfelter or ADM come with a new controller and require rewiring harness but they both work very very well. my 89.7lb injectors have a need for fuel and results are good....I have been told that on a twin pump twin BAP's would be needed if you want to boost both pumps....

Jsharp,
Is that the Z06 pump you speak of? I like the sound of that mod but the price is not cheap. Edelbrock says they advise the Z06 pump over the voltage booster so that makes me think they have reason (reliabillity) to prefer it.

Lingenfelter twin pump uses two CTSV cadillac pumps..Very nice set up and right at 1000.00 but also includes a new controller. ADM is the same set up.
all parts for complete install included. Installation requires the dropping of the tank which is a pain in the ass..But well worth it and will allow for your future upgrades. If you want to use a BAP on top of system you will need two. Voltage of a single BAP is not sufficient for two pumps. Same was found with stock controller..Not sufficient for twin pumps!k This single item proved to be one of the hardest to really get our arms around. So many different perspectives. In addition, the tuning software was showing positive results from BAP units but when checking readings for voltage after the stock controller it was found that the boost voltage was not getting thru. so the false positve readings was giving us a false sense of security....Take a manual pressure reading off the fuel rail..dont rely on the reading of the obdII system...Just sayin!
