Magnuson TVS2300 and RWHP
Debating on whether I should get the Magnuson TVS2300 or the ProCharger.
I like the Maggie cause' it just totally cool, but I also like the ProCharger for other factors like easier setup, no issues with engine knocks / detonation, don't have to carve up engine cover, no meth required (to cool engine more), self lubricating, and amazingly high rwhp on very little boost @ 6psi. I have LT headers, new exhaust w/ cats and x-pipe, a CAI and booster CAM. My expectation because of the stage II booster cam is about 660rwhp. with about 500-520lbtq. level to about 4.5k with a procharger, and about 580rwhp. with similar lbtq. numbers straight through the higher bands. Wondering if people with similar setups as mine (no forged internals or stroked engines) can share their experiences and RWHP numbers with their Maggies or Prochargers, and the type of tune you got (canned or custom). Much appreciated.

My point is, it seems almost all of the these SCs, at their stock power levels, are putting out close to the same power. I can think of a couple that were higher, but you haven't included them, and I haven't seen enough independent apples-to-apples comparisons yet to make a comfortable judgement (these SCs were running 8-9 psi on their stock formats). I believe the Maggies come with 6 psi. JMVHObservations.

Stay on topic. He's clearly listed only TWO specific SCs.

Calbert1999,
We have sold and installed over 300 of the Magnuson Superchargers and quite a few centrifigal units over the years. The roots type (Magnacharger) units produce superior torque and horsepower in the lower and mid range rpm levels. The Magnacharged cars drive and perform more like Big Block cars due to the difference in power and torque off throttle, I have driven vehicles with centri units installed that actually had stock type performance and numbers below 3000 rpm which is a big disappointment for a street driven car IMO These Eaton based, Magnacharger superchargers have been used on many OEM cars such as the Ford GT, Corvette ZR1 and many others due to the durability, longevity and lack of maintenance required compared to the centri units. It is not a problem to make 640-650 rwhp with a stock engine and supporting mods with the TVS 2300 or 750-800+ RWHP with a lower compression, forged motor. You might also want to consider single or twin turbochargers depending on your future horsepower goals with the potential being 1000 HP and beyond. I would personally go with the Magnacharger with your mention of the 650 rwhp goal. Let me know if I can help you with any other questions or info or I can provide you with dyno sheets on similiar setups if you would like. Best Regards, John Page Twenty First Century Muscle Cars |

The reason why you probably don't seem many people making 650 rwhp is because once you start getting past 600rwhp then most people will do a full build on the motor and up the boost accordingly to end up with 700+. From what I have seen on the forums here ~600 rwhp seems to be the level at which most people are happy pushing the stock internals to.

also factor in what you plan on doing on the suspension/traction side. The Maggies make superior torque/horsepower down low, which is great, IF you can keep the tires under it. The ProCharger will be a bit softer down low, but will keep on pulling hard up top.
My ProCharger made 535 rwhp/480 rwtq @6-7psi with only Dynatech longtubes. It also made 400+ rwtq from 3250rpm and up, so it isn't like it is totally gutless down low. Traction is still very limited with anything more than a slow roll into the throttle on the P Zeros.... Either way, you will be very happy....

My question was "without forged internals or stroked engines". I know anybody can make 650rwhp. with those types of mods. I'm asking about stock engine with CAM, and / or fuel system upgrades.

we have done both magnacharger, and procharger builds at the level you are looking at. at similar boost levels (around 8 psi) they make near identical peak power. the magnacharged cars are usually 610-630 rwhp, and the procharged cars are usually 610-630 as well.
the magnachargers of course make more power down low, and there are spots where the procharger makes more up top. I don't think you can go wrong with either, and both are better at certain things. I think the maggie is a cleaner install, and a more finished look. the maggie is more fun to drive, but harder to plant the power, where the procharger is easier to get to hook up. I will see if I can post an overlay of the power numbers tomorrow so you can see cars with identical cams, and boost level with the two different blowers. |
