LSR short throw install, review and before and after pics
I recieved the shifter two days ago and couldn't wait to install it. I had it 4 days after I ordered it.
Over all the install was pretty straight forward with no suprises, it took me 2 hours but allot of that was getting the car on 4 jack stands, it's lowered with PFADT spring and has factory ground effects, the two combined don't leave allot of room for a floor jack. If your considering this shifter GO FOR IT, you can't beat the price and the reduction is 33%, not to mention in my opinion it's looks awesome, with the stainless chrome ring and steel black knob. They also offer white and black plastic with a shift pattern, I don't see why you need the shift pattern, plus I figured any vibration or buzzing would be reduced with a heavy steel shift knob. There is absolutely no slop side to side when your in gear, like I have heard with the hurst shifters. A few pointers if your gonna install this shifter, the size of the two hex head bolts that hold in the lever base are 10mm, they didn't mention this in the directions, I needed two 6 inch extension to reach them and I had to crawl back out from under to find the correct size and get extensions. Also I lowered the transmission rear cross member, this gave me a little more clearence, it's a tight fit to get up to the shifter so any room helps, just make sure you don't remove the entire cross member, just back the bolts out about 3/4 inch, this was a 15 mm socket. Also I didn't have any luck removing the pin that holds the shifter lever in place with 1 of the spring clips in place, as they direct you in the directions. There are two of them, one on each side and they recommend leaving one in place, it didn't happen for me, I had to remove both of them, you might be able to do it if you had someone sitting in the car pushing the factory shifter all the way over in the neutral position. When installing I could however install one clip on the pin then push it thru, the new shifter over all, set's lower and gives you more clearence. I also would recommend adjusting the amount of reduction you want, while you have the shifter on the work bench, before you shove it up from underneath the car. There are 3 different settings I went with the lowest. It was kind of a pain to do from inside the car after install, trying to get the get the allen head bolts to line up with the dimples in the shifter. I haven't driven it yet, I'll let you guys know tomorrow, it's to late to open the garage door and go for a spin. Compare the two pics of the stock VS. LSR they were taken from the same angle this gives you idea of the difference in height, use the 4 pack gauges as a guide. On a side not when I recieved the package, I was upset to see that the steel shifter ball had a chip in the paint, I sent ALDO with LSR a PM from the site he assured me a new one would be on the way shortly, with return shipping for the one I received, I'll also let you know how tha turns out. Over All so far I couldn't be more impressed with the quality, price and customer service. Hope this helps other considering the LSR shifter. Last edited by indigloflow; 05-14-2011 at 01:30 AM. |

You said you have no sideplay in the LSR shifter when in gear. Did your stock shifter?
My stock shifter is terrible for this and I was wondering if the LSR might tighten things up a bit.

a lot of the side play is just from all of the linkages. i have a barton, and sideplay is almost completely gone. the aftermarket shifters all seem to be a much more precise fit, with much tighter tolerances.
So yes, absolutely. And that black ball does look pretty sweet

Ron55vette&10ss I may be bias but it feels great. Connects you to the car. Here is a link to a video of the shifter in action.

I have this shifter as well and I love it. It is very solid, no slop and shifts flawlessly. Only minor buzzing from vibrations at certain frequencies which you will get to different degrees from many after market shifters.
LSR FTW

Can you even touch that metal ball in the summer? It's got to get hot on a 95 degree day

LSR Fan here!
I kept the stock ball. The hardest part for me was putting the dust boot back on. |
