Is it normal to have to press play button when I go back to Pandora?

If i'm listening to Pandora on my iphone-usb connected and i switch to the car radio for a while, when i cycle back to my iphone (through steering wheel buttons), my iTunes starts playing. I have to press play on the pandora app to listen to the pandora station again. Is this happening to anyone else, is it normal and can I get to automatically go back to the pandora song?

Through the USB connection the radio is made to work directly with the iPod app.
Any other app that plays audio, will send the audio through the connection but none of the other tag data like track names and such like iPod.app does.

When the radio switches to the USB aux connection it will always default to iPod.app because as far as the car is concerned that's the only audio app.

The way iOS works I think since 4.0 is that the play buttons will work with any audio app and not just the iPod app, this is the reason you can skip tracks in pandora (or any audio app) with the radio controls. But also the reason non of the tag data for these other apps shows up and also why if you start playing a song selected via the menu on the radio that song info will stay there if u switch to pandora.

So the way it's working is normal.
This could be changed by apple in the future if they allow 3rd party apps to send there own tag data to replace the data iPod.app uses.
Someing I think will eventually happen at some point in the future.

There apps that manually shut down and deny applications from starting like the iPod portion of an iPhone. Configuring this app correctly will make pandora the only music playing app visible to the car when you plug it in and it won't start the iPod.

In short: "there's an app for that!"
