Thermostat Make car lose power

WTF, So just got a call and was told for my Dad to have his Thermostat changed or the tuner is going to lose power. WTF is that? Everything I read on this site says the lower Thermostat will not let the motor get to operating temp. I told them not to change it.

'The tuner is going to lose power'??? I can't see how a cooler t-stat is going to effect the 'tuner'. Possibly the tune they install but even then they should be able to compensate. Any pros out there run across something like this? I would've told them I've got it at home and I'll do it later...... NOT!

your tuner's an idiot. He just needs to alter the tune to compensate for the new T-stat

Check with the one who did the tune or the tuner mfg. Tuners can have several tunes one with cooler stat and without I think. Thing is Aluminum engines like 190-205 degrees water temp for best power from all tests I have seen, individuals results and my custom tune in my 98 LS1, and from engine builders, but confirm that first. coller then that and you can loose power and also have to keep your fans on earlier so the temps wont rise anyway, as they will.

Yeah, I know, that's why I am having a hard time believing the guy that called. The only thing I can think is lose RWHP number from not having the 160 stat, from being cooler when the tuners gets a hold of it Tuesday. I was shocked and told him not to change the stock one out! My Dad is pissed off at me now b/c I told him to take his car there. The Guy doing the install asked if we wanted to leave it like that for the tuner like it's a big deal!

And this is IPS telling you this? Tell them if they are going to make you put a 160 t-stat on, that they have to put a free TT on too
