factory gm shifter to factory hurst question

Ok so here is my question i have a ss with the stock gm 6 speed shifter. I bought the hurst factory shifter from a member on here but he only included the shifter part not the bracket. Can i use the bracket from the stock gm and it work the same? Anybody know?? any input would help! Thanks

not sure which bracket you are talking about...?

Hurst only comes with the shifter, not the linkage.

my question is since mine didn't comewith a factory hurst will the gm bracket that comes with there shifters work? and will it work the same?

Yes, you don't replace the bracket with the hurst. MGW does. You're fine.

and this isn't an aftermarket hurst its the stock hurst from gm. I was told before that the bracket was needed

Oh...

I have the aftermarket hurst and didn't replace the bracket. Just the "shaft" in the first pic.

I have installed a MGW on a friends car, and it does replace the bracket in the second pic.

I have no experience with the factory hurst.

...I think you're making much more to it than what there is...just take out your stock shifter...and put in the factory hurst...
Whether its stock, factory hurst, or after-market hurst, they all go in the same way and use that same "bracket" you have pictured. Hopefully you haven't taken your "bracket" out yet...its not necessary.

It might help you to go to the Hurst web-site or find it here on the forums, there is an installation video by hurst for the after market shifter.
Just pretend your factory hurst is the one in the video, and you will be fine.

This is incorrect information. The factory Hurst shifter INCLUDES the bracket. In the above photos notice the top plate on the bracket. This is used to reposition the pivot point in the modified bracket and align the change rod. The factory GM/Hurst lever may physically fit into a stock housing but there are several problems that may be encountered. These include a misaligned change rod which will require more shift effort to shift and a much more "notchy" feel. Also the lower rubber dust boot and bottom the the shifter may start to interfere with the drive shaft in certain situations.

I would suggest getting the bracket as it is an integral part of the shifter.

If you are correct, then I was mistaken...perhaps you can tell me this:

I replaced my "factory-hurst" with the after-market hurst...seemed to go ok and shift ok...what about brackets, etc. with that combo?

Also I have taken out a stock shifter and it appeared identical in over-all dimenstions to the "factory hurst"...and "bracket" appeared identical.

perhaps I was confused by the photos or whatever...or missed something along the way...your knowledge and assistance would be appreciated. Thanks
