Shorties + high flow cats vs Long Tube Headers
So a member had an interesting comment on a thread and i thought i would ask the question to all camaro5 members. Does anyone have experience with shorty headers with high flow cats vs long tube headers???
It would be nice to get the gains of long tubes without having to get a tune to get rid of the CEL. (i'm still hesitant to void my warranty for more gains. Probably worth it though haha) So the main question is, will shorties plus high flow cats give a CEL?? And if they don't, the follow up question is what are the compared gains?? And if they're similar, what are the best set ups for shorties + high flow cats??

I was going to asked the same question . I already have JBA shorty headers with stock cats. Never a Cel and when dyno'd I gained almost 10 HP .no its not as much as LT but I got a deeper tone , No raspy sound and again No Cels.
I read that thread your talking about and I also wonder about adding the hi flow cats and what gains would they bring . Hope someone has the ansewers.

Solo's the only folks marketing a hi-flo cat for our V6's. Comes with a resonator attached to quell the rasp and even O2 sensor extenders are included to use if needed. They are expen$ive but do not trigger CEL's.
JBA only offers their hi-flo cat configured for the V8 and is cheaper. Has anyone heard if it can be made usable for the V6? I want some hi-flo's to go with my JBA shorts. I believe you can nearly match the performance of LT's with shorts&cats, but to get the greatest benefit you'd have to do a tune with Trifecta. Steve at Solo didn't know if anyone had done the JBA/Solo combo yet- Anyone? ![]() It's been done with DT shorts, so while some welding would be needed, I'm sure it can be done, but any first hand knowledge sure would help. Thanks.

I sure would love to see a dyno of stock versus shorties + SOLO HFC, and then stock versus LTs....but only because it would be interesting to see. I don't see anyone actually doing it.
I still believe that LTs have the overall edge, but shorties + HFC can't be too far off. Its just that going LTs in the first place is much easier and can be much cheaper. I guess the advantage of shorties + HFC might be avoiding the CEL while increasing flow, thus not needing a tune, but I have heard of a few people with the SOLO HFC getting a CEL after many miles and I have a feeling this combo might produce a CEL over time. Hopefully I'm wrong.

yeah, that would be very annoying to spend more and go through the trouble of adding this combo to avoid the CEL, then get it. Hopefully someone with experience will chime in

to be honest, the little extra HP gained by the LT's isnt worth the price and the RASP!!
but again its in my opinion.

well i live in miami so ive never really had to worry about having cats.. Maybe shorties no cats, have to deal with the cell anyways and maybe it wont be as bad as the LT's and the rasp

So Solo has the only cats for the V6 ? If you have to weld them on I don't see why any Hi Flow cat would work . Fill me in please.

They are bolt on only if you have your stock headers. If you have shortie headers that had to be welding on then you would have to weld the solo high flow cats on as well. Also, I had my DT shortie headers put on before adding solo high flow cats. Did not really notice a big difference in power from shortie headers compared to my stock headers. Then i put on the solo high flow cats and the power gain was unbelievable.
