So I just got a 1000 Private offer...
Thanks to the help of awesome members here on this forum. My question is when should I bring this to the dealers attn. After finance papers are filled out. After negotiations, before? Should I consider it like a down payment? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

AFTER. Finishing your negotiations(before financing papers) then 'mention': Oh I have this 1000 private offer too...

I would tell them right off, its not like your going to "trick" them into seling it to you for less than they are willing to go. Its not like they cant say they would need to redo the offer if they dont want to add that at the end, its not sold to you until the paperwork is signed.......
If they get dodgy then go somewhere else, but Im pretty sure somewhere in the small print it states you are to announce from the beginning you have it so they know what offers arent usable with that one. Least any rebate type items Ive ever had does |

They will add it regardless. They are not losing out, it's an offer from GM not the dealer. The problem is if you're upfront about it, they will try and "trick" you into thinking you're getting a better deal than you are. They have no problem adding it on at the end, it's not their buck, but if they think they can bundle it in and make it sound better (and the dealer makes more money) they will.
Most dealers not all, but I gotta assume worst case to try and help this guy save money. "oh well let's see, I'm giving you 700 off, and 1000 for the private offer, that's 1700" NO, that's 700 buddy, the 1000 is from GM! .

Exactly what power Slave said. They will use it as leverage in making you thnk that you are already saving $1000, and after awhile, you will think the same thing and possibly give in.

Yall appear to either have some very sleazy car salesmen or only go to one place or both, which means you are allowing yourselves to be scammed. you should have at least two places, three would be better draw up all the paperwork and give you the final sale price, all the way to signing, to compare. Then make your decision who your going with.
Sure it takes awhile, several hours of true negotiating at each place, but it saves you a bundle and you get to see who the sleazy dealers are in the end. Theres just to many dealers out there to settle, and since they can do dealer trades, you dont even have to go to the one who has your car. This hiding stuff to ambush them with is kinda hypocritical if your expecting them to be honest and straight forward with you isnt it? |

There is a thread on here if you search for private offer. That's how we got ours.

Pretty much. I believe the offers are zip code-driven. Build your vehicle and then request a quote, and if you luck out, the private offer will pop up. Remember to turn off the popup blocker.

It is a little more involved than that but the private offer thread has some detailed instructions. with some patience and a little luck you can get one :-). I would link you the thread but I can't from my phone. I got one for a fellow member earlier today, it isn't hard, just can be time consuming.
