Discount tire certificates worth it?
Hey. I just purchased some Michelin pilot super sports for a good price from discount tire. They charged me $240 in warranty for all tires (certificates as they call it)
But how does this differ from car insurance or tire manufacturer warranty? Is it worth it? My first big tire purchase and I'm not sure about this part. My last pzeros lasted 26k, had nails, but we're always able to be repaired. Anyone know anything about this or have thoughts on this? I'm curious to hear opinions Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2 |

I never buy the certificates. I take my chances. I've been lucky that I've never damaged a tire beyond repair. I could buy several tires for the amount I've saved not buying the certificates. Usually if you decline, they'll offer to sell you 4 for the price of 3.

Wow, $260 for 4 tires. That is outrageous considering regular tires are 50, 60, 70K tires and this warranty doesn't last the life of the tire. While it might be fine for tire life of a summer tire, anything else is a ripoff.
"Regardless of the number of miles you put on the tires, you will be covered for the life of the original tread down to 3/32" remaining, or 3 years from the date of purchase, whichever occurs first." In over 30 years I've never had a blowout or ruined a tire. I've gotten my share of nails, screws, etc but were always fixable. $10 to fix a nail is a lot of nails in only three years.

Discount tire patches tires for free. The only thing that certificate is good for is if something happens to the tire that is not repairable.

Like anything else, it is an insurance policy. You hope you do not have to use it, but if you do, you are glad you have it. My wife is notorious for somehow picking up nails or metal objects of some kind, so I typically purchase the tire certificates for her car.

I have been buying my tires at Discount Tire for every car I've owned over the last 35 years.....and have only needed to have a tire replaced ONCE in all those years.....the certificates are a waste of money....I will always take my chances and pocket the money.

Worth it replaced 1600 set of tires on my truck for 240 bucks. The cover if tire is damaged if run while flat. SS cars don't have spares think about it. May have to drive it (slowly) to a safe place for the wrecker to pick you up.

That's not right. I paid $16 per tire for tires I DIDN'T EVEN BUY AT DISCOUNT. I insured the stock tires because I think it's worth it. I mean if I roll over nails that's a lot of money saved, and there is a lot of construction around me so always the chance.
