Cold Air Intake question
Ok I know this might seem dumb but here me out. So I really want a cold air intake but I am tight on money. So what I wanted to know is if I could take the stock air box off and just put the air filter on the end where the stock air box would go. Would I achieve the same result using the stock tube as I would with the aftermarket tube that normally comes with the air filters?

Actually, you may end up worse off than the OEM stock set-up because you'll likely be pulling hotter air in from the engine compartment. All of the aftermarket cold air intakes are designed to isolate the filter from the compartment in some way - either with a box (CAI, Roto-Fab, K&N...) or by locating the filter down low and away from the heat as much as possible (Ingen long tube, for example). You'd be better off with an aftermarket filter in the stock box, but you won't get the gains of a complete aftermarket assembly, IMO.

Like pgustavson said, that is a very bad idea. Give the thread below a look. It has a lot of good info about how air intake systems work.
