Why did you buy your Z? Show or go?

I really had my heart set on a used, low mileage Z06. I saw this car online with only 1400 miles, for a pretty decent deal, and decided to hop on it. It truly is a fantastic riding car. It's amazing how much attention it draws. If I would've bought this car brand new, I would've chosen either chrystal red, or triple black.

I know this car was built with both the quarter mile and the autocross in mind, but I'm a drag racer at heart. It's nice to have beefed up suspension to take whatever abuse you can send it's way. Unfortunately, this car is like a light weight Tahoe. I weighed it Friday and it came in at 4240# without me.

Since I never see the Z's at the dragstrip, I assume most folks are just cruizin' or showin' . I, for one, want to enjoy the car for what it was built for.

100% go. I think its a beautiful car and completely respect the wax and carshow crowd, but got it for the bulletproof nature of the drivetrain and performance capabilities. I too have never seen a zl1 at my local dragstrip (other than mine)

Curious, do you have a sunroof? I'm wondering because of the weight. I haven't got to weigh mine yet

I learned a long time ago you get a car like this for 'go'. Style without substance only disappoints in the end.

Yeah, sunroof in mine. I've been to the track 2 times and got 2 different weights. Last time, I had 3/4 tank of gas. Track prep was terrible.

GO GO GO!
There is a handful of Z's at the local track.

Judging by the topics in this forum most people treat them like a trophy.

Hey Big Dave,

WHat part of Md are you from? And what dealer did you buy your car? I have not been to the track yet. I hope to make it there sometime before the end of the summer.

To answer your original question. I purchased it to mainly drive and show it. However I will definitely take it to the track to see what it does before I start doing a few modifications.

I'm from Silver Spring. I race at either Capitol Raceway or MIR.

I'd have to say both. Primarily Go, but I also enjoy going to cruise nights and showing her off. Now I don't usually enter judged car shows, just local cruises. My car will see both drag days and road course days. My father owned a shop and I grew up there working on cars, waxing his drag car, etc. I enjoy all aspects of cars, cleaning, waxing, wrenching, and mostly driving.

The "GO".

Maybe I missed something, but I didn't think the ZL1 was built for either of those purposes... I Thought it was built for it's overall road/track performance, and supreme daily drivability. It's biggest claim to fame is its results at the Nürburgring along with winning nearly every "Overall" comparison test to it's competion, the GT500. I think it delivers very well on those two counts despite its weight, and that is why I bought it. And while I feel it definitely has the "go", the looks it draws daily proves it also has the "show".
